ShredLA Posted June 8, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) When using tiffen red #25 filters on my M10-R while the jpeg is set to Monochrome in camera i am getting extremely bad .Jpeg files. any idea why? yes, Im aware that i can get similar results by shooting color and messing with the red channel in post. i have never had any problem with this filter and other digital sensors such as canon 5dsR and various Sony A7 sensors.. any workaround? Im shooting DNG+Jpg the dng looks fine when its red and converted over but jpeg looks like trash, id prefer to work with Jpeg for social media. attached is an example of what im getting. Ive tried +1 , correct , and -1 on the exposed Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jaapv Posted June 8, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2023 It is a bad idea to use colour filters on a non-monochrome camera. Filter effects should be applied in postprocessing. Apart from the deterioration of image quality by the filter ( albeit small) you will get focus shift the more the filter pushes you into the red But the worst effect is turning the camera into a one-colour channel one which throws away the major part of your data. You should apply the colour filter effect during raw conversion. In this case the in-camera B&W conversion is completely buggered by the lack of two colour channels Social media are better served by a smartphone in my experience Horses for courses.
