egibaud Posted November 11, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I've noticed that the noise of the shutter is different according to the lense. With my CV75 it seems more noisy. Maybe the way lenses are built make some echo or stops the noise in a different way. Has anyone noticed this? I did not make any measurement, just a feeling. Advertisement Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Hi egibaud, Take a look here M8 shutter noise differs according to lense. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pascal_meheut Posted November 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2007 Yes, it was the same with pre-digital Leica M.
chris_tribble Posted November 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2007 Eric - I'd noticed this too. Unfortunately my favourite general purpose lens, the 28 Asph, also is one of the noiser lenses! Gives a new take on "noise" and digital cameras... Never thought I'd be hunting for a quieter lens. Imagine the conversations: "Quite like the noise I get with the 35 cron v 4 and the 135 Apo Telyt. Can't stand the 50 lux pre-Asph."..
jaapv Posted November 11, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2007 Different lenses have different sound-deadening characteristics. A lot of the noise gets out of the body through the lens.
Guest Lotw Posted November 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2007 Yeah, it would be best if Leica would produce wide-angles with the most and if not otherwise possible, tele's with the least sound-deadening characteristics.
marknorton Posted November 11, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 11, 2007 I think it's down to the noise you hear coming from the casting "ringing". Add mass to the casting in the form of a lens and the resonant frequency will change and the perception of what you hear. A big heavy lens is going to reduce the pitch of the ringing. Maybe this accounts for the way some people feel about the dual-range 50/2 vs its standard-mount contemporary.
