DBounce Posted June 3, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently, I noticed, when shooting video with a Leica Q3, that the shutter speed does not appear to stay constant. There seems no way to lock in a shutter speed that will adhere to the 180° shutter rule (double the fps). I noticed a short while ago, whilst filming outside, that the shutter speed increased; peeking to 1/250 of a second. Indeed, in video mode the camera seems to give no control to the user over shutter speed. I’m hoping this is just user error, and that there is some obvious way, to gain control over the camera’s shutter speed when in video mode; but so far, I can only manage to do this within photo mode. Qwertynm Posted June 4, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 4, 2023 I just tried out the video mode for the first time just to reply here. I set the shutter to 1/60 on the top dial of the camera, rest on auto and went outside and pointed the camera into the sunrise and back on our balcony. Aperture changed as is expected, ISO did not change and shutter remained at 1/60. So I guess most certainly this was user error and not the camera. nariza7 Posted June 4, 2023 Share #4 Posted June 4, 2023 I def hope that it can be locked since id be at 1/120 majority of the time. Since you guys have the q3, can I ask what you think about the 4k 60p video quality and lens stabilization? It's also uncropped right?

My camera was set to 1/60 ( there is no 1/48 or 1/50) and it kept changing all over the place. I’ll test again today and share any findings.

Yes, it should be ideally 1/50 for video, but 1/60 and then Manual the rest. At least if you control the light and doesn't change locations with light changing up and down. Here is a little writeup on Video on the Leica Q3: https://www.overgaard.dk/Leica-Q3-digital-rangefinder-camera.html#Video-with-the-Leica-Q3

From the factory the Q3 is set up to shoot 4k30 so 1/60 was my setting. Either way, it shouldn’t change the shutter speed in manual video mode. Test again and report back. That‘d be a major bug but I guess yours was set to auto
