Anyone any idea why my 1994 chrome M6 has a red '125' on the shutter speed dial, as opposed to black?  Just wondering.

Very simple indeed.

I bet 125 setting is his/her prefered speed.

Modification to be better seen is my prefered style for decades.

As soon as I have possibility, I do this routinely,

like here to see at a glance if the setting is on A, a piece of tape in this case

Ahh, ok. I can understand this. I also have a M7 which I prefer to use on 'A'. Occasionally if it is used on other settings and not returned it can mean there is a moment of confusion when taking the next photo.
