Precisely why I bought an M6 in addition to my M4P.

TheBestSLIsALeicaflex Posted May 29, 2023 Share #22 Â Posted May 29, 2023 Maybe they're good inflation hedges, but I generally sell stuff I don't use in a year. Â Doesn't stop me from using five M2's, which I just cycle through in rotation, including multiples of various lenses in the 35 focal length, but I use them, so they stay. Â Sometimes I'll keep stuff for sentimental reasons. Â However, had I kept all my Leica stuff from day one, thirty years ago, they would of all just appreciated in value. Â Especially that black paint M6ttl and lenses ... oh, well. Â
TheBestSLIsALeicaflex Posted May 29, 2023 Share #23 Â Posted May 29, 2023 Always felt the minimum was three cameras in house. Â For traveling need at least two, because once I had a camera break on me in the middle of a trip. Â To be reasonable assured two are available, need at least three, because once had a cameras disappear into the black hole of a famous repair tech, even though my trip was more than six months away. Â You get the idea. Â If you travel, keep at least three. Â
spydrxx Posted May 29, 2023 Share #24  Posted May 29, 2023 Havin just added another grandfather clock to my household, I'd say we're all hoarders to varying degrees. At age 79 I've added 3 Barnacks this year...egads...I'm worse than my mother who died with 13 vacuum cleaners stored away in her home😂
CSG123 Posted May 29, 2023 Share #25  Posted May 29, 2023 Then, unless financial reasons are at the root of disposing something maybe not used for awhile, keep and enjoy your things. There's comfort in long held possessions, and, depending on one's taste, smartly chosen tools (of any kind), antiques, art, and other hobbies that last through generations (unlike, say, Pokemon cards) are good places to park and hold discretionary cash. Many of the things I bought 10, 20, 30, 40 years back have gone up in value but I don't need to sell them and I like living with them. Bottom line: enjoy your stuff until you no longer do or are dead and let the family sort it out. Easy to prearrange that through trusts and wills to keep the disagreements at bay. Eclectic Man Posted May 29, 2023 Share #26 Â Posted May 29, 2023 Oh, woe is me too! I have a Leica R5*, 50mm Summilux, 21mm f/4, 38 f/2.8, 35 f/2.8, 135 f/2.8, 70-210 f/4 and 35-70 f/4 Leica lenses, which I rarely use. Â But every time I 'decide' to 'let them go' I have to pick them up, and then I fall in love with them all over again, especially the R5 and the Summilux. Â Trouble is that I once owned a Mamiya 7ii, and part exchanged it, Â boy do I miss that camera! As William Morris said, have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful, so I'm a bit stuffed. (Currently actually using an SL2, 16-35, 50 Summicron and 90-280 lenses, and an Intrepid 4x5 Mk4 with 150mm f/5.6 Schneider Kreutznach.) One day I shall be strong! *Not to be confused with the Canon R5, a completely different beast.
