Keith (M) Posted January 8 Share #22 Posted January 8 Thought it time to resurrect the fungi-specific thread. 'Chicken of the Woods' (Laetiprus sulphureus) bracket fungus observed growing on a tree stump, Albert Bridge, River Welland Stamford Lincs., UK. This specimen is c. 50cm diameter and on 16 August 2025, still expanding. Leica CL / TL 11-23mm. In the N. Hemisphere we're fast approaching the fungus season; in the UK there will be a myriad of fungi species to photograph. dkCambridgeshire Posted August 19 Share #25 Posted August 19 (edited) Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The same 'Chicken–of–the–Woods' (Laetiprus sulphureus) bracket fungus specimen as in #24 above observed from a different angle and thus with different lighting – and illustrating: (i) the decaying tree stump habitat; decay hastened by the relatively large fungus consuming its habitat's nutrients. (ii) the River Welland's bankside flora (including trees) – and the slow flowing river's duckweed habitat – latter providing an ecosystem to shelter and sustain small invertebrates and fish. (iii) the dwellings gardens on the opposite side of the river which slope down to the river edge reeds – and include the willow tree. All in all contributing the diverse and balanced, riverside flora, fauna, and funga. And please note, 'Chicken–of–the–Woods' (Laetiprus sulphureus) bracket fungus is the subject of a Kew Gardens study: https://www.kew.org/read-and-watch/chicken-of-the-woods Leica CL / TL 11-23mm BW, dunk Edited August 20 by dkCambridgeshire
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
