I called them yesterday. When the guy pulled up my order he said “oh wow”. I said what? He said “wow, we have a lot of people waiting.” I asked do you think I’ll be part of the next batch that he get? He said “I’m not sure but it seems unlikely due to the amount of people before you.” I ordered at 2PM May 25th. He wouldn’t tell me how many people are before me but his reaction when he first saw the back order list is enough for me. I think it will be August before they get up to 2PM since they are up to 10am now.

Thanks for sharing that information.

The “oh wow” is definitely concerning. Let’s hope he was reacting to the list as a whole and not to the people ahead of you in line.

I’m really hoping that person who said they ordered in the evening on the 27 and was number 348 wasn’t full of it. I’m hoping the person who claimed b&h were getting 200ish cameras per shipment knew what they were talking about.

if those two things are true I’m sure your camera is much closer than you think. Much closer than mine anyway since I ordered on the 30th.

I’m thinking if I don’t have the camera by August I’ll just cancel my order all together. This whole thing has put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth and the wait has given me time to think if I really need to spend so much on a camera.

I placed my Q3 order with B&H on May 28. 1:57PM.   Based on the above, this looks to be a long ways off.  Also I have orders in at Leicacamerausa and Camera West. Can anyone kindly offer me some suggestion for how to get it sooner?

Yes, I believe I posted something similar about buyers remorse. It’s given me time to think long and hard if I really need it, I don’t. It’s a want. I had a Q and Q2. All these issues I had with these cameras seems to be corrected with the Q3. If for any reason I don’t love it, it’s going back and I’ll keep my Nikon 35mm 1.8 S and get a Z7 II.

When I called B&H, I was (thought) I had a 9:34 am order but on their system, it was 10:27 am.  I wonder if I am in the next batch.  I called who I. usually order from and got on their waitlist last week.  I am #40 on their list and they didn't know when they would get more.  So the demand is more than we know.

I’ve never owned a Leica. My father passed away of ALS late last year. I took care of him for several months. My daughter was born recently too.

I thought a Leica would be a nice post mortem gift from my father for my first Father’s Day. that’s the context of my purchase at least. I’ve always wanted a q2 and decided to wait for the q3.

Like you, I do have a perfectly good camera that can hold me over. It’s an x100v. I might just get a wide conversion lens for it instead of waiting on a q3. Still gonna give it till August.

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one having second thoughts.

I called Thursday, they told me will give an ETA in next 2 weeks.  I’m also having 2nd thoughts…thinking in getting an M10-R.

I've owned both the x100f and x100v and didn't find them a substitute for a Q series camera. For a while I had hoped the x100v plus conversion lens would keep me from feeling the need for a Leica but I bought a Q2 and sold the x100v and accessories. The x100v on its own is smaller and lighter and I had hoped the digital zoom to act like longer lens would be good, it wasn't. The issue is when you bring the raw files into lightroom it doesn't pass the crop info and you forgot what you were going for. I like the Q2 way much better with its crop but allowing you to recrop. The Q2 also gets "out of your way" and just lets you shoot more. The Q2 has some drawbacks the Q3 fixes, like external USB and a tilt screen, but if you can live without that maybe look into a used Q2. To really know maybe you should rent a Q2 for a week and then decide if you want to drop out of the Q3 waiting list. At least with renting you will know if Leica is right for you.

While I want a Q3, I decided I hated the wait and will keep my Q2, but spent the difference in price on a Fujifilm X-T5 with sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 lens. It's the same weight as a Q2/Q3, has a two way tilt screen, IBIS, 40mp sensor and real optical zoom from 27-75mm not just a crop. With the new subject detection it's the best fuji I've ever owned and I've owned five of them.

But rent a Leica and see if the brand is for you. If so then it's a question of Q2 now or wait for Q3 to be available at the end of the year. If not you saved $6k and with the money can buy most any flagship camera to be from your late dad. But be warned buying a Q series camera can lead you to wanting other Leica models and that gets really costly.

Thank you for the lengthy and well thought out response. Just to clarify I know what I want. It’s just a pain in the ass that Leica is the only one making it.

I’m not new to photography by any means. I own a gfx and 80 1.7. I have an xh2s and around 6 lenses for that system. I’ve been buying Fuji since the xpro2 back in 2016. I’ve also owned a 100f and I’ve owned the conversion lens in the past. I’ve also used a Ricoh griii for a time. The griii is what made me love the 28mm perspective. If only that camera were more durable. I’m extremely careful with my gear and it didn’t hold up. I bought another but fear of it breaking down too caused me to sell it. I’ve been looking for another fixed lens 28mm camera since.

I’m listing the gear I have simply to show that I know exactly what I want. If there were another camera company out there making anything similar to the Leica q3 I would get that instead. But alas Leica is the only one making a fixed lens 28mm full frame hybrid autofocus camera with a tilt screen and usb charging capable of sending a raw file to a mobile device wirelessly.

it really sucks that Leica is the only company making such a camera because I would definitely get it from another company no problem.

I certainly won’t be tempted by the q3 into other Leica gear. Leica makes nothing else of interest to me. I have no inclination to pick up anything from the sl line or m line of cameras.

It’s the features I want, not the Leica brand.

Nothing mate.
Ordered mine in the evening of launch day from Clifton Cameras.

2 weeks ago when I checked I was no. 6 on their list and they said an estimate of anywhere from 2-6 weeks.

When I checked this Monday I was no. 5 on the list.

No idea how often they get drops or how many. They wouldn’t say.

Wex won’t say anything about list positions or stock arrivals either.

have an order in with WEX and like you they refuse to tell me where I am on the list and will not give me any idea about stock arrival.

Spoke to BH yesterday. I ordered May 28th. My order will not be fulfilled in this most recent stock shipment, but I am in the top 1/3 of a 1000. Ugh

I ordered on 27 May when they resume the online shop. Hope i can get one soon🥹

I'm in that same boat with you. Ordered 5/28 around 10:20AM. Flying to Japan on 7/13 so I doubt I'll have it for my trip.

I also have a pre-order in with ABT but when I asked how long the line was after I ordered they told me 12. So most likely will get it from B&H before ABT given the quantity/rate at which ABT receives the Q3s.

Another data point to add in.  After getting on the lists at Adorama and B&H on launch day, I also called Leica Store Boston about a week later and got on their list.  They called me on Friday and said they had a camera for me.  Definitely seems like Leica stores are getting stock and able to go through it faster than third parties.

(I turned down Leica Boston and have cancelled B&H and Adorama as I got my Q3 from leicacamerausa.com last week!)

Ordered May 27th as soon as the site re-opened and this was my info from BH this morning

"I see that the next shipment for the 30th will unfortunately not be sufficient to reach your order, the following wave has yet to be estimated by the manufacturer. I can't divulge much info about the queue, but if you cut the current queue into thirds, you'd be in the first third. I apologize for the inconvenience."

Here's to hoping for July 🫠

Just got off with b&h... Less pleasant news than I was hoping. They got a shipment today, but not enough to fulfill my order that was made at 8:12am PT on 5/25. My last check in, I was told I was 2 shipments out. This time around... I was more than 1 more shipment out. They said the numbers are growing, but still not enough to reach me yet. This is wild!

I've been on the Leica LA store's list since like 9am 5/25, and on Boston's as of a few weeks ago. (I don't remember when I called.)

I'm hoping that maybe I'll be lucky this week on leicacamerausa.com? has anyone heard anything about more cameras being available on there? It seems like it's every other week?
