congratulations! I hope all is good

That was mad. I had errors then not, then an item in my cart that then wasn't, then I had two items but going to the cart I had none. Then, when I had a page where I could add an item, it told me I already had one, then I didn't.

It looks like it've missed out this time.

Worth noting also that the email they sent said it was launching at 14:00 GMT; we're on BST, and I emailed Leica London to confirm that they meant 2pm. My guess is some people think it was going to be 3pm, because they diligently did the time zone conversion...

I tried to order today, 3 times I managed to reach the payment page twice I tried pay with CC and both failed,  one more time I tried bank transfer option as CC failed and but it failed too.

Tried one more time then again I reached the payment stage but this time it was not available. I dont know you guys but I did not like it at all. I am a gearhead, FF28 mm small package with high MP was so attractive and wanted to buy something will keep its value in the long run better. But honestly for £5K this sort of treatment is not acceptable for me. Please do not compare Apple(s) and pears. When new iPhone is released hundreds perhaps thousands times more people try to buy from Apple's online shops. If Leica  spend 2 cameras' cost I am pretty sure they can set up a system will match the demand.

I decided to stick X100V and close Leica chapter. For candid street photography it has been perfect,  I had used it for near a year until I sold it and now I bought another one (waiting for its delivery). For some scenarios I might need that require low light high ISO performance, high MP and wider and faster lens options, I will buy a FF system.

Leica is a small company and the products, particularly the Q series, are very popular. Their production lines can't make enough to satisfy demand so what are the options?

1) Ramp up production lines for the first month or so of sales. Too expensive for Leica to do this. It would require additional specialist equipment, extra manufacturing space  and extra staff for a relatively short period. This would reduce Leica profits, affect the ability to manufacture other product lines, and probably put costs up to an even higher level than they are now.

2) Make lots of Q3's before they launch. This won't work. It would tie up lots of capital in unsold cameras, delay the launch and hence causing Leica a cash-flow problem. We'd also all be waiting longer for new products to be released.

Btw this isn't just the case with Leica, have a look at how long Nikon took to deliver the z9.

Long story short, some of us will have to wait. It won't be very long and waiting really won't make our lives worse. We can survive this!

I hear you. I got lucky, and honestly didn’t expect that I would be able to order one. To be honest, the X 100V is a extraordinary camera. I had the F, and if I couldn’t afford the Leica, I would want to get an X 100V. Those they seem as hard to get now as the Q3. Yes, it has has half the resolution, but it’s smaller, lighter, and it’s really an enjoyable camera to use.

Inspired by a post on Reddit I decided to call b&h to see if they could tell me where I’m at in the queue after seeing some others have success and finding out their spot in line.

I was completely stonewalled and told that’s information they do not provide to customers. Either someone is trolling on the internet sharing fake info or some of the b&h customer service people are more customer oriented than others.

I need to work on my patience I suppose. I’ve never pre ordered a camera before let alone one so expensive. Then again several weeks of being paid in full and receiving no information is a bit much.

When someone said the last batch that came in was 200 for B&H… I’m like did they really sell 1.2 million dollars worth of cameras in just 1 hour? Since those 200 only covered early morning orders. It sounds unbelievable, especially since B&H is just one retailer. That would mean that Leica sold at least 30-40 million dollars worth of cameras in the first hours of you factor in all the retailers across the world. I guess we’ll never know. If there’s any truth to these numbers then I can’t even guess how many were sold the first 24hrs. Which again is very hard to believe.

Well, let’s assume the person I spoke to who managed to get their spot in line from b&h was honest. They stated they were number 348 and had ordered a camera in the evening on the 27th of May. This person also claims b&h assured them that their camera would be delivered as part of the next shipment. That claim tracks with b&h getting 200ish cameras per shipment.

Assuming all of the above is true, I’m lead to believe that there was a large burst of orders immediately after the camera was announced. Somewhere north of 200, maybe around 300. After that initial burst the number of orders slowed to a trickle. Which explains how someone who ordered on the 27th in the evening could be #348 in line.

Personally I have no problem believing that Leica sold that many cameras. Not only is the x100v hard to get but so is the Ricoh griii. People are also beginning to show interest in Sonys line of fixed lens cameras, which hasn’t been updated in quite a while.

Fixed lens everyday carry type of cameras appear to be the hot thing right now. Even outside of the photography community. People of all backgrounds are looking to acquire these “point and shoots”. Either because they are a fad on social media or because they see the value in using a high quality camera instead of their cell phones to document their lives.

Next batch you say? I ordered at 9:30PM EST from B&H, so hopefully you're right. I'm thinking we're getting ours in July.

think i got one they took my money and i got a order number

only thing that worry's me it says

Item is no longer available for a follow-up order

I had the same message yesterday, it was gone this morning.

Btw, on the launch day, I know that a Leica Store in Germany only received about 5 units (including the demo one), so in fact only 4 for sale.

As it was mentioned before, Leica is small company, even more if you compare with the other companies like Apple, they cannot afford to produce such number of cameras. However they should make sure that the website does not crash when they have this kind of events, it should be very easy to anticipate and to plan in advance that the load on their servers will increase for a certain period of time and to implement the right mechanisms to improve the user experience. Anyone will get nervous when gets error messages while trying to buy a 6K EUR camera.

I had no luck on the Leica UK site yesterday. I'm on a waiting list for a UK shop but they've said it's likely to be into next year. Another big shop here require a partial payment to be on their list but they've told me it's currently at least 7 months as they're only getting in 5 Q3s a month. I get that it's popular and they can only produce so many but that does seem an awfully long time to have to wait. Fingers crossed the Leica online store have more available before then 🤞

If it helps us put any numbers together, Leica store Los Angeles only received the display model on launch day. (Or so they told me). I’m on that waiting list, but they said it’ll be at least a few months and “all we ask is to please be patient with us”.

I’m sure most of you trying to buy the Q3 yesterday will have just received the same email. But good news that more units will be available next month.
