I like the "bumper" cushioning the cap provides and the little rope "keeper" is great. The fit is perfect. I tried a few alternatives and found this to be excellent. kobra Posted May 16, 2023 Share #22 Posted May 16, 2023 I use KASE magnetic filters and lens cap on the lenses on my SL2. This is hands down the best system I have used, both for filters and for the lens cap. I bought the filter system, then went back and bought a magnetic lens cap for every SL lens... They make a 49mm one also, https://www.amazon.com/Kase-Wolverine-Revolution-Magnetic-Adapter/dp/B0BSTPQCCG/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1Q8U8ZFMBT6X7&keywords=kase+magnetic+lens+cap+49mm&qid=1684203733&sprefix=kase+magnetic+lens+cap+49mm%2Caps%2C159&sr=8-3 KASE also have magnetic UV filters (and of course a full range of other filters). But I haven't used the Q2 without a hood, so don't know if flare would be an issue. I think I will try the Q2 without the hood and if I don't see flare issues, I think I will go the above route. Does anyone know how does Q2 is without the hood? Brad
jmc014 Posted May 17, 2023 Share #23 Posted May 17, 2023 I’ve been using my Q2 since 2019 without the lens cap (but with the lens hood), so my lens cap is still pristine. I decided not to use it because of the ease with which it seems to fall off the lens hood, even in the carrying bag.

I do not use the standard hood, only a very thin and wider one from Haoge, no Lensflare, I am rather happy with that set-up.

Haven’t used a lens cap since 1972. So…I know the Q views through the lens, but in 1969 I was trackside at a Can-Am race. Got a great photo with my M4 of Bruce McLaren putting an amazing pass on Lothar Mothsenbacher. Then I looked at the lens cap still on my lens 😡. Threw it on the ground and every lens I’ve bought since…the lens cap gets binned 😂 2

The owner of the store I bought the Q2 from insisted, having been a Leica shooter his whole life, to just put on a real good quality UV filter and leave the lens cap off. Not a terrible suggestion. The lens hood is designed so very little "injury" would occur if something gets close to the lens.. I did that for a day or 2 but I have always been a "naked" lens shooter my entire life. Never want to put any additional glass over the lens unless I am shooting CPL or some sort of grad filter specifically for the subject. Yes I am being very picky but my experience has shown even the best quality filter is still an extra piece of glass in front of the sensor or film do degrade the IQ. But that's me. YMMV. I adopted the filter solution. Just temporarily unscrew if you want to shoot 'Naked'!
