Focussing is perfectly smooth and dampened. Ditto for the aperture ring. Chris has a bit of flexibility regarding the greases he uses, so he'd be able to tweak the lens to the user's liking (within reason, of course) if asked. My favourite combination is medium-firm focus and lighter aperture - although it would seem that most people prefer it the other way round.
In any event, unlike the prototype, the construction of the FLB (the front of the lens rotates with the whole barrel) requires that the aperture be set before focussing. This is my biggest gripe with this lens, but a more *modern* construction would have added nearly 50% to what is already a hefty price...
Focus shift is the first thing that I tested for and there's none that I can detect - although TBH I didn't notice any in the non-FLB prototype version either. I seldom use the Visoflex and the two pictures above were taken with the rangefinder.
It's fair to say that I didn't have a suitable E39 hood handy and that I asked my favourite London dealer to sell me the crappiest used filter he had (I have many back home and didn't see the point of buying yet another one new) so that I could use the lens without worrying about damaging the front element. With this caveat in mind, I'm confident that IQ is the same as the prototype's.
Also, the first picture (post #25) shows a bit of blur, which I'm entirely responsible for - I shot it hastily and left the speed dial at 1/60s... I'll post more in the next few days.

Thanks for taking the time to share these images!  Do you have any experience with the C-Sonnar, and if so how does it compare?

Thanks. Yes, I also have the C-Sonnar. The obvious differences are that the Zeiss is almost one stop faster, is built like a modern lens (the front part of the barrel doesn't rotate) and, crucially, has strong focus shift. I haven't compared their rendering at f/2. I might do that when time allows.

I love the look.  It slightly puts me in mind of what you might get if you merged the 35 8 Element and the Apo Summicron 50!

Fingers crossed for Lotto this weekend! I could put one of those to good use.

Delivery times are long! I ordered mine earlier in the year for delivery in the second batch, next spring!
