Hi guys, I just got an M10r with the latest firmware. for some reason, it does not Auto detect m Summilux 24. i also can not manually select that lens from the list, and also not the 21 lux.

Is there something I am missing here? are these lenses maybe just filtered out?

thanks

you cant select which lenses to show in the list?

Correct. It's possible the lens may be added to the in-camera database but for now it is not a selection either auto or manual.

i have a feeling these lenses might have been forgotten in the new Firmware, just had a friend with another m10r check on his camera, these lenses can not be selected manually and are not recognized automatically from the factory coding.

I do remember that the 24 Lux being recognized in an older firmware version of the M10r.  strange.

Have you checked to see that the contacts on both lens and camera mount are clean?

yes i have, the lenses can not be selected manually either, they are simply missing from the in-camera Lens Database. I am in contact with customer care regarding this issue.

This is the correct answer.  If a lens was designed from the start with 6-bit coding, it will not be manually selectable.  As to why your particular 24mm isn’t detected by code, you’d need to test with a different M body to see if the issue follows the lens or not.

Hello,

I was thinking about getting the 24mm summilux f1.4 and and the M10R but to read, the lens is not being recognized by the M10R and you can’t enter it manually, is now stopping me. I have have shots of the 24mm summilux f1.4 on the M240 and they just looked great. For me, there is more flesh on the bone so I’m intrigued to see what the lens looks like on the M10R, with the extra resolution.

I see Hoseegor has reached out to Leica customer service for an answer. When he hears from Leica, could you post the info.

I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

J

So i just got back from Customer service. it is the cameras fault :). there is a small mechanical switch somewhere in the lens mount that is needed to determine the lens apart from the coding. it seems to be a bit out of spec adjustment. it is currently being fixed, i also had to leave the lens there for testing.  they gave me an M11 as a loaner for the time being, which is not too bad.

@10j6F18r no worries, i tested my 24 Summilux on another m10r and it worked, it also works on the new M11 and Monochrom.

That’s good news. Please let me know how this turns out. I’m in Los Angeles so I’ll check with the Leica store here, about getting this done on my M10R before I pull the trigger on the lens. Good luck with it.

I forgot, if you can let me know what they do for the m10r so when I ask the LA Leica store, I have a general idea about what needs to be done. Thanks.

this just my personal M10R body that seemed to have arrived faulty from factory , in general, the M10 and M10r /M11 should accept the 8bit code of the 24lux without any issue.

Like i said i had a loaner M10r in Japan last december that worked with my 24lux without any problems.  I can tell you what they repaired once i get it back, which may take a couple of weeks :))

If you don’t mind letting me know that would be great. The 24mm summilux renders colors that are more tactile. The micro contrasts adds extra subtly to the way the focus falls off the subject that contributes to the 3D quality of the lens. I could be wrong here, but, I find the new 35mm apo Summicron f2 has similar qualities to the 24mm. It looks sharper then the 24mm, which is good but, the rendering of the micro contrasts of those lenses is what I like. As you can see, I care about micro contrast..and…pixel width. Go figure. Let me know what you think.
