Laharrier Posted April 26, 2023 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey gang, take a look at these photos and tell me what you think. Brand new 10R and on the first couple times I opened the baseplate I noticed the latch was making contact with the baseplate. This seems very un-Leica like to have such a poor tolerances. I have sent a message to Leica USA tech support to advise on it but I wonder if this is a normal trait? Welcome, dear visitor! Laharrier Posted April 26, 2023 Author Share #2 Posted April 26, 2023 Here’s a better photo. Bottom of the tab is dragging on the inside of the plate and scribing a line… 😕 obviously just cosmetic but disappointing no less. Welcome, dear visitor! grahamc Posted April 27, 2023 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2023 I'd be disappointed with that - I'm sure Leica would swap that out actually so let us know how you go. None of mine do this so doubt it is normal

Could be weeks or months until I get a replacement back. 😕
dugby Posted April 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) I am using a 3rd party 1/2 case which allows my M10-R to operate without it's baseplate, the 1/2 case has a tiny magnet in the correct location. .... after sending your baseplate to Leica you could try placing (taping) a tiny magnet in place to where the baseplate's magnet was co-located. to allow camera to switch on correctly You might test with cutting up one of those pesty Realator refrigerator marketing magnets Edited April 28, 2023 by dugby

Maybe you can clarify with them ? I wrote back and asked if it was possible to sell me a replacement with a future refund available once they receive my baseplate. This way there’s no downtime. Seems like a stretch but we’ll see

Your battery won’t last for weeks, that’s for sure. When owning a Leica, it’s good to have a trustworthy and service oriented Leida dealer with good contacts with headquarters. LocalHero1953 Posted April 28, 2023 Share #10 Posted April 28, 2023 Brand new 10R? At the very least they should confirm they have a spare baseplate in stock and ready to send out before you send yours in. And where did you buy it? Isn't this your supplier's problem to sort out? Once you've demonstrated to the supplier the baseplate is faulty, they should be responsible for getting the new one, leaving you with the old one meanwhile. Camera was purchased from a Leica dealer in HK but I am based in the states so made more sense for Leica to warranty it directly.
