Don't know if any Mac users here know about this, but I'm always thrilled when new ways of working show up on the scene. I don't often change the tools I work with, but more often than not new tools influence the future development of the software I already use.

Anyway, seems like the beta will be available in a few days: Naked Light

I don't know--all we have at this point is a few marketing bulletpoints. And keep in mind the impending release will be a beta; I suspect this has a ways to go before being viable.

Also, I don't know that their goal is to topple Photoshop. Maybe for photographers, but ultimately digital imaging is an absolutely huge field in which photography is only a small portion; Photoshop isn't going anywhere.

I'm looking for a more lightweight companion than PS for image editing outside Aperture, which I only have to do once in a blue moon. Haven't yet clicked with LightZone, though I find its approach really interesting.

Anyway, it's a good time to be a digital photographer (on a Mac).

Looks great, can't wait to try it out. Have been using PS for a long time and their have been a couple of programs that have come along that have tried to compete against it, one at twice the price that sounded a lot like this, cant remember the name, but it didn't last very long. Since i am a Graphic Designer Photoshop is a big part of my daily use programs but always willing to try something new. I'll let you know what i think.

Ctrl-C Ctrl-V is the simplest non destrucive solution I know. I couldnt see anything that would sway one way or the other from the presentation.

It is not only whether it will ever have what you need, it is also how good the algorithms are.

After you kick it round for a bit it will be intersting to see what you think Patrick, and why.

This sounds interesting and exciting, but premature. The website says the Beta is really an Alpha, and it will be two weeks before there is a Beta that you can actually do any work with. So check back later.

Best,

Mitchell

Peter just this part interests me

Mix and match images with different resolutions, color spaces, and pixel aspect ratios—all in the same composition.

That does kind of fit your work, doesn't it Imants? :)

Strange that they'd make such a hullabaloo over an alpha, what with the countdown timer and all.

Looking forward to testing a functional version. Think I'll wait for the Beta Beta.

Imants, I don't follow why this "negates the use of small sensor cameras" (?)

Sounds a lot like like LightZone, with which I now use all the time to destroy the exquisiteness of of my files:

A great lens> good large sensora great file> Mix and matchd pixel aspect ratios> dummy up and down=a variety of camera results. The larger files just give on more room to move.

Hey if you don't like to PP buy a variety of cameras:cool:

Mitch, I would love to see the same image you just posted before PP, and a small description of why you used LightZone, and if the same work could be done in other applications.

I use Lightroom, which is very good and competent in all, or almost all areas, but which in some ways lacks any particular strength, except possibly file management, and sometimes I wonder if there is something better out there for what I want to to. I love the look of that image.
