Peter L-m Posted April 23, 2023 Share #1  Posted April 23, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi. I'm a fairly new Leica owner. (CL with Summilux-TL 1,4/35.) I have searched this forum to find an explanation to the "red contours"-problem I have encountered, but didn't find the answer so I post this question. See screenshot from Photoshop window, looking at 100% zoom of one of my recent photos. (f/1,4, shutter 1/2500, ISO 100.) Where does this red edge/contour come from? Looks a bit like the focusing aid you can choose when looking through the viewfinder. I didn't notice this problem when looking at the photos in the camera. It appears also when I check out the photo in my Mac computer's Finder window. Thanks in advance for your help with this issue. /Peter L Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Hi Peter L-m, Take a look here Red contours. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 23, 2023 Share #2  Posted April 23, 2023 Looks like chromatic aberration to me. Try using the dedicated slider in ACR. Or the colour replacement brush.
LocalHero1953 Posted April 23, 2023 Share #3  Posted April 23, 2023 For that lens, an aberration creating just a red line seems unlikely - I never had that effect when I had the CL and the lens, which is one of Leica's finest. Is ACR/Photoshop showing the correct lens profile? Do you see it on all files? Peter L-m Posted April 23, 2023 Author Share #4 Â Posted April 23, 2023 Thanks for your input. No, certainly not on all files. So for (6 months) I've been very happy with this combination (CL + Summliux-TL), this is the first time I encounter this problem. I'll check Photoshop for the lens profile. Peter L-m Posted April 23, 2023 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 23, 2023 PS. Photoshop recognizes the lens and says it's applying the automated corrections for chromatic aberration in this particular lens.
jaapv Posted April 23, 2023 Share #6  Posted April 23, 2023 Don’t depend on automatic correction for CA in out of focus areas.
Peter L-m Posted April 23, 2023 Author Share #7  Posted April 23, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, Jaap. I realize that now, after reading up some more on CA. Still, this remains a minor problem, most of my photos with this lens turn out excellent
ruskkyle Posted April 23, 2023 Share #8 Â Posted April 23, 2023 I use this combination a lot and yes, that looks like classic CA you get from time to time with this lens To be fair your image would be a bit of a torture test for any lens (white birds against a dark background) and the 35 TL is struggling a bit. In Lightroom use the dedicated chromatic aberration slider and pipette to select the exact shade of pink/red for removal. Should look great afterwards.
