fordfanjpn Posted November 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the Ultron. It was the first lens I bought for my M8, and it was tack sharp. But because it was a bit bigger than I liked, I moved on to other lenses and didn't use it for a while. Recently I took it out again and gave it a try, and it won't focus properly no matter what I do. It's not front or back focusing, it's just OOF! All my other lenses (except for the the Nokton 40, which is an ornery creature) focus fine, so I don't want to try to tweak the camera to match the Ultron. So now I'm wondering, is it possible for a lens to just suddenly stop focusing correctly for some reason? If so, I assume the only way to fix it is to send it back to CV. But it seems odd to me that it would be fine when I stuck in the dry cab 3 or 4 months ago, and be so out of whack now. Bill

tom0511 Posted November 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2007 Is maybe the M-mount adapter loose?
fordfanjpn Posted November 8, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted November 8, 2007 Is maybe the M-mount adapter loose? I tried two different adapters, and they both fit quite tightly. Bill
orjanf Posted November 8, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2007 If you set it at the infinity stop. Is it sharp at any distance?

I have this Nokton (great lens) and it sits idle for months until I use it again on my M8 or rarely M6. It focuses perfectly. Unless the lens was damaged, there is no reason for the lens not to work years later. Are you sure someone other than you did not drop it and not tell you? Does it rattle when you shake it? Are there new scratches on the lens barrel surface?

No physical sign of any problems. Bill
tbarker13 Posted November 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 8, 2007 Haven't used the ulton. But I've also had issues with the 40 nokton. Really the only lens I've used with my M8 that didn't focus correctly (front focused by several inches) when used wide open. But I've never had any lens focus fine one day, and then be off the next day. That seems odd.

fordfanjpn Posted November 8, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted November 8, 2007 Any chance someone dropped it and never told you? There might not be a single mark on it. No one would have touched it but me, although I have taken it out in my bag a couple of times without ever having used it. So I suppose it's possible that it got bumped without my knowing about it. Is there any way to check it, other than the infinity focus thing, or will it just need to go back to CV? Bill
