I understand Leica decided to stop the production of the Summilux-SL 50

That was one of the first batch of SL lenses in 2015, so they probably haven't made any in years. That's not to say that it's "discontinued," which only happens when they run-out of old stock.

My undestranding is they won’t do any new batch, and they will announce the lens is discontinued

It’s said this lens s discontinued. Yes, it’s big, heavy and slow. But it is my best portrait lens ever.

Swatch,   I would not be surprised if a smaller, lighter, SL 50 Summilux appears.  This is a milestone year for Leica.  I was told there will be some surprises this year and even Rumors has speculated such.  All we can do is wait and see what the Leica elves create....kinda like Santa Claus's elves, might even be an early Christmas for some or maybe even many.  Just remember, the gotcha line...you got to be good 365 days a year...clearly a high bar for many too....HO, HO, HO!  r/ Mark

PS  Olaf_ZG, the portrait in your post #705, IMO is superb.

The SL bodies are far too slow for action photography. The Summilux-SL is the slowest focusing AF lens in L-mount.
I don't know why I thought it a good idea take the SL2-S and Summilux-SL 50 to this dance rehearsal.
1/250s, f/1.4, ISO 1000. Cropped slightly from the left to remove a drinks bottle.

A new (to me) Summilux-SL 50mm, arrived yesterday. I had a portrait session planned for this morning: he wanted headshots to help him get into drama school.

Obviously I had to cut down the lighting by a stop for the Summilux, and you can see the bigger nose in the 50mm!

thank you, this was really helpful for me to see the difference between the 50 LUX and the APOs in terms of of DOF and “look”.

I can see the increased sharpness is significant, and that the 90 gives a more ‘correct’ portrait, but the look of the 50 is absolutely what I’m after and the bokeh is lovely.

I imagine that I will end up with the 90 APO as well, along with the 21 APO, but replacing my 50 Lux ASPH M with the 50 Lux SL is the way forward for me as my first native SL lens. Thanks!

I think I'm selling mine if anyone is interested. I just don't use as I default to the M version all the time and I end up mounting the 24-70 or 90 instead for portrait sessions.
