Mikep996 Posted April 17, 2023 Author Share #23 Posted April 17, 2023 I think I'll attempt a trade with one of the Leica shops when we're in the UK (leaving for there on Wed - be there 6 months), trading in a Leica M10 body and three Leica lenses - 50 Cron, 90 tele-elmarit, 28/35/50 Tri Elmar and see what I can do re the 50 'Cron APO/my bank account. 😱
dugby Posted April 17, 2023 Share #24 Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) Mike. The 50APO images from my M10-R are mind-blowing (just absolutely gorgeous) over both the 35FLE and 50FLE that I also have. For particular reasons I won't sell off the two FLEs. The 50APO just stays glued to the M10-R, as it's the "complete" package for me. When I need to shoot repetitive "wide", I'll slap on the 35FLE, however for adhoc "wide" I'm now starting to experiment with stitching DNGs, two portrait 50mm shots stitched = one 35mm landscape Edited April 17, 2023 by dugby
newtoleica Posted April 17, 2023 Share #25 Posted April 17, 2023 Rendering is the thing with lenses…. Sharpness can be a part of that, but it is by no means the only thing. choosing a lens is like picking a brush, you pick the tool you want to interpret your vision of the scene….
RS-Colo Posted April 17, 2023 Share #26 Posted April 17, 2023 The 50APO actually got me back into Leica after decades since my film days. I had been over ten years into 4x5 and then moved to micro4/3 digital. I could do all kind of stuff I couldn't with 4x5 film, not least take more than a dozen sheets of film with me for the day. But the 12Mpixels of the day were very sad doing anything beyond an 8x10 print. I longed for more sharp resolution. Then I read about the new 50APO and how it was designed from the start as the sharpest lens in the world. Going from 4x5 to digital had softened me up for something (anything) better. The icing on the cake was the new Leica Monochrom (CCD) camera without the RGB filter. The combination of lens and sensor gave me the "best" image of the day. I still have the 50APO. And I pair it with my M10-R or M-10M. Of the four Leica lenses I have, the 50 stays on the camera I am using as much or more than the other three combined. My goals are not everyone's. But the 50APO is my perfect lens. Welcome, dear visitor! Mikep996 Posted April 17, 2023 Author Share #27 Posted April 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) As I said earlier - I have always wanted the sharpest image I can get from my cameras, film or digital. It's easy to adjust an image in processing - whether digital or darkroom - to obtain a less sharp print if that's the "vision" of the photographer. But I have never wanted a "less sharp" photograph out of the camera.

Then you will love the Apo-Summicron-M 50 mm Asph (and the Apo-Summicron-M 35 mm Asph as well). The point is—the Apo-Summicrons will give you the sharpest images you can get from any camera, film or digital. You don't need 60 MP to appreciate the virtues of an Apo-Summicron ... but then, 60 MP won't hurt, either.
