wilfredo Posted November 7, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted November 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My trusty Epson 2200 has suddenly gone WACKO. The color hues are all over the place as if some of the inks were not being used. When I go to print using PSCS3 I get a message saying something like "Interpolation, calibration will be ignored since you are printing to a non postscript pritner." Any idea what this means? I've been using the printer for five years now and just had some parts replaced by an Epson authorized tech a few months ago. This printer has been very reliable. This is a totally new experience. Any help will be appreciated. Â Cheers, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography

wilfredo Posted November 7, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 7, 2007 What's an OS upgrade? Operational System? I'll try reinstalling the drivers. Â Thanks, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
wilfredo Posted November 7, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted November 7, 2007 I reinstalled the printer software but there is no change. I hope I don't have to spring for a new printer. Â Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
ptomsu Posted November 7, 2007 Share #5  Posted November 7, 2007 You need to reset your printer setup in System Preferences. Then you need to reinstall the drivers and add the printers you like again.  See also: Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature  It says what to do depending what OS version you run!  Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.5.x  To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.5.x, follow these steps: Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."  As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.  Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.4.x  To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.4.x, follow these steps:  In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu. Open Printer Setup Utility. From the Printer Setup Utility menu, choose Reset Printing System. Click Reset. Tip: If Printer Setup Utility won't open at all (possibly due to your printing issue), you can try to access the Reset Printing System feature directly by holding down the Option key while opening Printer Setup Utility. cocker Posted November 7, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted November 7, 2007 Wilfredo - sounds like a software problem. However, I have the 2100 (UK equivalent) and periodically get bizarrely coloured prints. It s usually when it hasn't been used for a period. I find cleaning the heads a few times usually solves the problem. Have you tried that? There is noting there that says "RESET PRINTER" everything else described in the reseting instructions is there except that last step. Â As I said, this printer has always been bang-on, it never gave me any problems. Any other ideas? I also cleaned the heads! sdai Posted November 7, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted November 7, 2007 Apple has posted a software update for OS X Tiger on iMac on the 6/11, they've mistakenly put up a bad version 1.2 first and pulled it quickly and posted again with a 1.2.1 ... not sure your problem has something to do with this but you could download the 2200 driver and install again ... then see what happens. Â When I get to this step there is no option for "Reset Printer System". Could the problem be with my IMAC? Should that option appear? Â Jamie: Â I cleaned the heads again, this time I ran the test and I only get three colors on it. For some reason not all the inks are being used. I don't think it is a problem with the IMAC or software, the printer is also making a new strange sound when I turn it on, like a crank being turned. I'll plug the printer to my old PC and see what happens, if it still doesn't work then I'll know it's the actual printer that will need to be taken back for repair. Worse case scenario, I may have to spring for a new Epson 2400. Â Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography

Worse case scenario, I may have to spring for a new Epson 2400.  Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography  Hey Wilfredo--  I had this happen repeatedly to my 2200; so much so that I ultimately sold it. I once even had a defective cartridge, and that made all the difference. So keep cleaning till you get a good test result. If you can't after a power clean or two, then call the company that just did the fix; maybe they didn't do something right  FWIW, I don't know about the 2400, but for the way I print (sporadically then a lot then sporadically) the 3800 has been fantastic. Not a clog ever, which is saying something.
wparsonsgisnet Posted November 8, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted November 8, 2007 Wilfredo, if you're contemplating getting a 2400, i have replaced my 2200, which was dying, with a 2400. Â 1. The 2400 is more-cheaply constructed than the 2200. This is not a problem in operation, however. it's just a lighter construction. 2. The 2400 does not print the full size of thick media. I used to get a 12x16 print on Ilford museum board that had only a small white border. The 2400 leaves 3/4 inch at the beginning and end of the board (that is along the short side). My requests to Epson indicate that one cannot get around this loss of real estate. 3. My 2400 displayed a magenta tone. I fooled with new downloads of profiles and so on -- and ended up purchasing Image Print for this printer. 4. Using roll paper is not as easy as with the 2200. Perhaps because I am using Image Print, the roll continues feeding after the print. I am therefore precutting the amount of paper necessary and using the roll feed process with the shorter roll of paper. Â I am REALLY pleased to be using Image Print. The cost will be offset by less proofing; that is, savings in paper and ink. IP is fantastic sw! Â I like the 2400. I have no problems with it other than IP-and-roll paper (if IP is the culprit). Â I am under the impression that the 2400 and the 3800 are the same engine. Somebody yell if I got this wrong. Â Regards,
guywalder Posted November 8, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted November 8, 2007 I had a problem (once, so far) with my 2100 that sounds similar to yours. I had a bizarre colour balance, re-installed drivers 2 or 3 times, and in the end it was a cartridge problem. I tried running the nozzle cleaning routine, and while I cant be sure now (it was many months ago) I think I printed nozzle checks and they looked ok. The ink level registered as low, but the light wasnt yet blinking so i didnt think of changing the cartridge for a long time.... as soon as I did, everything was fine again. no strange noises though. Â I also find that the printer can start 'banding' when catridges get low. Maybe I should use it more often.....
wilfredo Posted November 9, 2007 Author Share #16 Â Posted November 9, 2007 I tested the printer on my PC and the problem remained. I never had issues like this before. I can get it repaired but don't know if it is worth it at this point. I would go for the 3800 but you can't do anything smaller than an 8X10 on that printer. I'll just have to take some time to think about this stuff. Â On another note, I haven't had to use Image Print for my 2200. Have others experienced the same problems Bill experienced with their 2400 printer? Â WIlfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
jerryharwood Posted November 9, 2007 Share #17 Â Posted November 9, 2007 I don't know if this will help or not; but there was a post regarding this type of problem last week; Photoshop CS3 does have a problem regarding printers- Adobe is working on this, but you need to be aware of this before trying anything drastic! I would wait and see , or contact Adobe support first.
wilfredo Posted November 9, 2007 Author Share #18 Â Posted November 9, 2007 Jerry, Â It's not a PSCS3 issue, the problem is with the printer. When I do the Epson ink test, it's totally off. The yellow is totally dead. Â Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
wparsonsgisnet Posted November 9, 2007 Share #19  Posted November 9, 2007 Wilfredo, sound like a clogged print head (may be too bad).  If you check here:  Epson America, Inc. - Clearance Center  you can get a refurb for $600. This is where and how I bot my 2400. They shipped for free.  Regards,
wilfredo Posted November 9, 2007 Author Share #20 Â Posted November 9, 2007 Mystery solved. I took the printer to the local Epson authorized repair shop where I had gone before and it turns out I had an empty Yellow cartdridge, so that's the good news. The bad news is that the printer never indicated there was an empty cartridge, so I'll see if this happens again, the repair guy said sometimes that happens; but it had never happened before. At least I won't have to invest in a new printer for now which makes me happy. Thank you all for all the help and tips.
