Advertisement Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Hi David Cantor, Take a look here Street Portrait No. 19 - A Splash of Red. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted March 25, 2023 Share #2 Posted March 25, 2023 Lovely. It's interesting how often in paintings and photos that a "splash of red" (often a rather small amount) adds so much to the image. Have a look at some Hudson River School paintings for what I mean.
Sparkassenkunde Posted March 29, 2023 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2023 Technically a very good picture, but somehow I feel no real emotion or communication to the portrayed lady.

Agreed, the sun glasses are an obstacle to getting closer to this young woman’s personality. Since posting the image, I feel rather better about it. There’s the juxtaposition between the ball of the hat pin and the button on the coat, the short length of black strap contributes and breaks up the red coat while matching the hat and background and if I’m not being too precious, there’s a triangle made up of the hat pin stud and the two red earrings. Whole encounter lasted just two minutes. Plus, I’ve got a thing about red hats: https://davidcantor.weebly.com/taylor-wessing-portrait-prize.html Phew! Sparkassenkunde Posted March 29, 2023 Share #5 Posted March 29, 2023 Thank you for the additional information, David! As I mention, this picture has everything a good picture needs and I am impressed by the level of detail you took care of, giving the short amount of preparation you were able to use. It's just me not feeling anything, there is no emotion in me towards the woman - and that is not her fault either It's some kind of emotional barrier I can't over come, and believe, I stared at her for a while now! The picture on your website on the contrary transports so much more in terms of emotion, it is "better" in this regard and overall a very enjoyable link to your work! Thanks for sharing!
