nikrasov Posted March 24, 2023 Share #1 Â Posted March 24, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! In manual said that one should set B/Off on Leica MP when not in use to prevent battery leaking. Is this leaking only happens when shutter button pressed/half pressed or always when B/Off is not selected? Should I always set to B/Off when the camera is on shelf? 250swb Posted March 24, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted March 24, 2023 B/Off is to stop the battery draining if you have the camera in a bag and the shutter button is touching the sides of the bag. For normal use you don't need to keep switching it off as it will switch off on its own if you are not touching it.
LocalHero1953 Posted March 24, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted March 24, 2023 And it is only necessary if you have wound on. The meter is off anyway if you have not wound on.
atournas Posted March 24, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted March 24, 2023 (edited) When at B/Off, you avoid battery draining, but no battery leaks; however, if you leave the camera at B/Off for a long time, say three months or more, then you increase the risk of leaks. In practice, things are simpler: Switch off the camera when not in use, but use it regularly. Of course, the best solution is not to use a light meter. No batteries, no worries! Yeah, I'm still annoyed that cars went to that danged battery/starter thing instead of the hand crank.  🙄 1

Huss Posted March 26, 2023 Share #7  Posted March 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) If Leica says to turn it off to B when not in use, do that.  They engineered and built the camera. If you are storing the camera,  remove the batteries. From the Leica manual: BATTERY • Always remove the battery if the camera will not be used for an extended period of time.
