Due to a major life change, I am needing to recoup some of the value of my camera: luxury though it has been to use, it is now a reproach to my spendthrift nature. Read on this board some suspicions of M8 items on Ebay--dodgy vendors/non-payers: perhaps not conducive to a straightforward transaction... Regards, No nerves required, Daniel (presuming you're solvent...)--the passion is here in this LUF for all to see. And who knows, maybe the black brick, worth its weight in inspiration, will still be there on the shelf at the end of the day, as my last saleable organ is shipped off to a grateful recipient?? gwelland Posted November 6, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 6, 2007 Piers, If the idea of selling to a UK buyer through the classifieds here doesn't appeal, and I understand why you wouldn't want to use StealBay, why not give Mifsuds, FFordes or MXV a call and have them consign it for you. I've bought and sold from all of these folks in the UK and they've been honest and professional. Mifsuds in particular is practically in your back yard, although Ffordes do an excellent collection service for expensive items - I'm sure they'd manage insured collection for your Leica gear. photolandscape Posted November 6, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 6, 2007 I have three lenses (15mm CV, 28mm Elmarit-asph, and the 90 Elmarit plus an M8. All of them were bought used through Ebay. Yes, Ebay can certainly be dodgy, but for the most part it's fine if you're careful. I would not deal with anyone with a weak (below 99%) satisfaction rating, or someone with no prior auctions. Selling overseas usually works out ok, but you absolutely must ship insured, and must require a signature for delivery--for any major transaction. There are lots of little criminal scammers out there who will receive the item, then claim it never arrived and hope to get the item and get a refund. You basically have to minimize the risks and use good sense. See what kind of return policy the person will offer, so you can return it if it doesn't meet your expectations. This is a good time to sell an M8--the retail prices have increased. I just bought a second one in great shape with 400 exposures under its belt for $3,550 USD. Now they're retailing for $5,495. I have sold through MXV in the past [they took 25%] and I have equipment now sitting with Ffordes and not selling [they take 20%]. In your position I would avoid both sellers unless they say they have a likely customer on their books and a quick sale is likely. Actually I might be doing Ffordes a disservice as they are Leica dealers and therefore should be better placed to shift 'M' gear than my equipment. As mentioned before, I would be likely to advertise in the for sale section here, and if you have a trusted friend with an ebay selling record get them to sell it through their account with you doing all the descriptive work and equipment photographs; but take sensible advice about the sale. On ebay, and using Paypal, the costs to you will be in the range of 7.5% to 10%. Good luck. ................. Chris EDIT Just spotted that you are in Somerset. Execpt that if you have no Ebay reputation (few feedback points) you are likely to get a bad deal since people will be cautious bidding (for good reason).
