jaapv Posted November 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anybody else noticed this? My camera's are well over 5000 shots. The shutter release, which was gritty and el-cheapo feeling when new, is very light and excellent now. Really hair-trigger, the way I like it. It seems it needs running in. Shootist Posted November 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 6, 2007 No not really. But I've only got about 2500 on the chrome and about 3000 on the black.
mhoersch Posted November 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 6, 2007 In June I worked for a week with a loaned M8 during a Leica Academy workshop which had probably seen much more previous use than my own M8. I remember clearly that I was amazed at how smooth and quiet this camera was compared to my own. Since then I've been hoping for my M8 to become smoother and quieter, too, but I suppose I haven't made enough exposures (ca. 3500) yet. So, I keep taking pictures and ignoring comments about the noise...
jaapv Posted November 6, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted November 6, 2007 Another thing- I use it in all conditions, it may help the running-in process if it is not sparkling-clean.
larry Posted November 6, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 6, 2007 Yep, mine's getting better. It's still a little rough, but it doesn't feel nearly as gritty. Larry
Stevez4 Posted November 6, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 6, 2007 So the shutter is just like a pair of cheap shoes.
Guest tummydoc Posted November 6, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I doubt there are any materials in the M8 shutter release mechanism that are also used in shoes of any cost, so the analogy is senseless. However the fact that the release 'runs-in' indicates that there are parts of unequal hardness making frictional contact, the softer of which is being abraded by the harder until the fit is somewhat looser. If the burnishing goes no further then all is well, but if it continues then eventually the release could become sloppy. In a camera costing as much as the M8 one might have expected the materials would've been of equal hardness, machined and polished to perfection. However one might've also expected a camera that did not need IR filters on every lens, and a working AWB after a year in production
