Yep, the advantage of the Q (and Q2) is the compact size and stealth factor, which is why it's popular with street photographers. A silver one would attract attention.

Ok thank u 😊

The silver looks so great, rather few to be available, the original Q performs well to this day.  As the Q3 rolls out look for more to become available, the prices may drop initially (conjecture) and then go back up as the Q has achieved cult status.

 "Stealth factor" is internet myth.

From my 15+ years on the streets with cameras between Graflex Anniversary and Ricoh GRD, people notice me with any camera and they notice taking pictures with phone.

Silver top plate is much better under heating sun on long street walks in summer, btw. Black metal top plates are getting hot to touch.

I love the fact that I have way more shots with people looking right into the camera with my standard black Q2, but admittedly I shot it with the EVF so the gesture is basically screaming "this guy is taking photos".

However the M series indeed more stealthy with the much smaller lens profile, even if mine is a silver chrome M-P240, people don't pay as much attention about it but I don't get as interesting of a shot as my Q2...

Not when you are out and about shooting and can see the difference.

I spend 15+ years on the streets before and after work during many cities, different countries and continents trips. First, I went out just because I'm not sitting in the bar after work. Second I realized it is good idea to take pictures. And I become interested to take pictures of people, since I was always interested more about them than streets.

At some point I become recognized for it. Too many pictures and days on the street, I guess.

FFrom my huge experience, including attempting of assault on me, I know what I'm talking about.

Q stealth factor is zero

In fact with silver one people reaction is more friendly. They seems to think you are hipsta :)

I'm not talking about the difference between silver and black. I'm talking about the difference between SLR, big lens, and small M mount or point and shoot (Q or 100V).

If I was going to use a small, discrete camera like an M, Q or 100V, I wouldn't make it MORE visible by using the shiny silver version.

depends on where you are, in Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Japan, someone seeing a Leica logo might actually get you a smile and a conversation. the bigger the brand logo the better!

trying to be sneaky/hiding a camera and taking shots is like asking for trouble with the police here... and anyway, most people at least in Asia can spot a camera at least 50 yards away

Most people globally have no idea what a Leica is.

I'm also not talking about hiding the fact I'm shooting. People change their behaviour when you put the camera to your eye, even my friends and family do it.

If you are in Rome, as soon as you lift your camera a professional poser (dressed as a Centurian) jumps into shot and demands five euros.

People with big, shiny SLRs are more attractive to muggers. A black M or Q looks like a camera from the 1950s - not worth much.

You can do whatever you want, if I was buying a camera designed for discrete street photography - like the Q2, I would personally choose black over bright silver.

Here is no difference between M, Q, X100V and SLR with big lens. No stealth with any of those, black and silver. You are getting noticed by wearing of them and taking pictures. Gesture of picture taking is very distinguishable. It doesn't matter to eye, in the hand in front of you or so called "from the hip".

All of these "stealth talks" is nothing but self illusion.

It is all about how you act and about people.

Small camera is just as noticeable than big one. Reaction sometimes is different. In Montreal, I got person screaming "paparazzi" just by holding DSLR in my hands.

But at the same Montreal, I got person telling me I can't taking pictures of her with my M4-2 while I was hundred+ meters from her.

And only true small camera to me as street photog is Ricoh GRD/GR series. With those I'm walking towards people, starting conversation and taking pictures while we talk, they don't care because they could not believe I'm serious with something tiny been articulated in my hand :)

I live in Canada, G7 country. People do notice Leica and ask about. Much more than any other camera from very many I have used.

Last thing for hot sun country is black metal plate. If you are really into street photography. On summer time I was putting white masking tape on my M4-2 because top plate was getting too hot while I was wondering on the streets. And people would still ask me - why I'm taking pictures.
