The yet to be opened extension to the ICU (International Christian University) in Mitaka, Tokyo. Interesting construction on the corner, with interlocking sheets of wood, which jut out into open space at the ends. Couldn't work out whether this wood had been treated with anti-weather coating of some kind, otherwise I don't hold out much hope for it lasting too long in the harsh Japanese climate. Still, plenty of wooden structures last a long time time here, so no doubt I am mistaken.

Very nice set of photos. I wondered too about the same thing. My guess is that it's detailed in such a way as to shed snow/rain without trapping it.

it's a nice modern interpretation of Japanese temple construction. Glad it's covered by someone else's professional liability insurance!
