I scored a Luigi half-case for my RD-1 a couple of months ago on eBay for an great price and it is truly incredible. I'd really like one for my Digilux 3 but the price in US dollars is pretty steep right now. Has anyone had any experience with the inexpensive neoprene case advertised for the D3? Does the top separate from bottom? Every time I set down my D3 I feel as if I'm banging it on the table. Any ideas will be most greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the neoprene case for my Digilux 3, it retails for about £30 here. Unfortunately it is a one piece cover, which can hang off the camera strap when not covering it. It provides good protection if you want to travel "very light", and has space for a couple of extra memory cards.

I haven't fully got the knack of getting it back on quickly! However that might be because I tend to leave my tripod quick release plate attached, and this does stick out a bit!! I think it is ok at the price, but not the best design for me.

I much prefer my my Lowe Pro Rezo 170 AW which also has enough room for a Metz AF 58 O1, spare battery, SD Cards & cable release. It is well padded, not too big and comfortable to carry when out walking.

The neoprene case is surprisingly good, and even more surprisingly, for something carrying a Leica logo, relatively inexpensive. I wasn't expecting it to be all that useful when I bought it, thinking more of storage than daily use but it has turned out to be a handy and practical item. I would recommend one. I shan't comment on the Luigi efforts because they make me laugh quietly to myself whenever I see one and right out loud when I remember the price he asks for them! Aren't evening classes great:)

Thanks for the great replies. I'm sorta' holding out for some sort of half case. I guess I'll need to lurk on eBay and see if I score a second time..

'Just a bit off thread but who's using a Domke bag for their D3? I found the D3 will fit in a 216 insert inside an F6 bag, lens pointed down. Actually it fits pretty well that way. I was surprised.
