cometsoft Posted November 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hike a lot and like to carry the 90 macro extended in my camera bag. It's hard to attach the lens to the camera body with the metal hood on when the lens is collapsed. Is it considered safe to carry the lens extended? I have one of these Artisan and Artist bags and so the lens does move vertically a fair amount in it's pocket. It doesn't move laterally.
Advertisement Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hi cometsoft, Take a look here Carrying collapsable lens extended. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted November 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2007 I don't see why not. Although I've never owned a collapsible lens I think they LOCK in the out position by turning the lens.

During storage periods(rare with this lens) I keep it collapsed.
cometsoft Posted November 2, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted November 2, 2007 Yes, they do lock. The lens seems pretty sturdy extended. I've been carrying it that way and am hoping not to hear that they are fragile when extended. I don't see why not. Although I've never owned a collapsible lens I think they LOCK in the out position by turning the lens.
tom0511 Posted November 2, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 2, 2007 I usually collapse it when its not on the camera. Why would you not collapse it? Regarding the hood I prefer to use the hood from the 50/2.8. cheers, Tom
cometsoft Posted November 2, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted November 2, 2007 Because with the lens hood (that comes with it) mounted, the collapsing, uncollapsing and mounting is time consuming and difficult. Why do you prefer the 50/2.8 hood? I don't have a 50/2.8 and have never seen the hood. I usually collapse it when its not on the camera. Why would you not collapse it?Regarding the hood I prefer to use the hood from the 50/2.8. cheers, Tom
