TEBnewyork Posted November 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have the SF24d. I've read that the Nikon SC-17 cable can be used for off camera flash. Do I need anything else or is it OK to use as is? From pictures of the cable it looks like it attached to the hot shoe. Correct? I'm brand new to flash that isn't integrated so be gentle. Thanks, terry
Advertisement Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Hi TEBnewyork, Take a look here Flash cable question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Eoin Posted November 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2007 Yes, it's very simple, connect either end to the camera and flash, use your 3rd hand to hold it in position:D and you're good to go. The flash maintains all functionality when using the Nikon cable.
TEBnewyork Posted November 1, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted November 1, 2007 Great, I think I saw a used one in a shop in NY and there are plenty on ebay. I don't think they are a current item (not on B&H website). Is that correct. Yes, my third hand for this may have to be a tripod!
Eoin Posted November 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2007 AFAIK it's only the older SC-17 that work and not the newer SC-21's
Shootist Posted November 1, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 1, 2007 AFAIK it's only the older SC-17 that work and not the newer SC-21's Not so sure about that. I think the newer Nikon cable is just updated so the cable comes out the side or the front, instead of the back. There is no difference in the contacts or the wires going from one part to the next. Guest tummydoc Posted November 1, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 1, 2007 Both Nikon TTL flash cables work fine. So do Contax TTL flash cables. They all have the right number of contacts in the right place to line-up with the ones in the M8 shoe.
