Advertisement (gone after registration)

Saw this advert today. Look at the guys outerwear rain gear - best in the world - look and you will see that despite the camera being covered in water drops, his clothing is absolutely dry ! This is a great advert for wherever he buys his clothing from !

There's a great story a Leica rep told me where they were doing an SL2 thing where a fashion photographer was shooting models at the beach and getting the camera soaked, and at the end of the shoot he hosed the camera off under a tap.. the clip went on youtube, and then some knucklehead in Italy took it to mean that the SL2 was an underwater camera, bought the system, then took it underwater, and yeah obviously that didn't go well. He apparently then successfully sued Leica for misrepresentation.. Pretty funny.

It is the droplets on the front element of the lens that indicates to me that it was posed, rather than a 'documentary shot'.  I'd really like to see the result of a top professional taking an image with a lens covered in a dozen raindrops!

(I will not be trying this at home.)

I guess you guys think you would enjoy eating the hamburgers in a fast food advertisement too? Advertising is always artiface! That said, they cannot be overly misleading, so the camera can indeed tolerate water. And a hamburger in ad has to be “edible”, even if it is being sprayed with food safe shellac and all sorts of weird camera only tweaks to make it look better in a photo.

It was probably getting in the way of the subliminal messaging that was meant to make you associate his hat with the Leica red dot, and the red dot with warmth and safety in a stormy world.
