Having now got two bodies from the first batch of 10100-1106000 (5000 assigned serial numbers) from 1932 I have been wondering just how many survived in substantially unaltered condition? Is it worth collecting serial numbers of unaltered and modified bodies via the forum and web to give an indication of just how popular upgrading was (this information might even be useful for Leica today)? Mine both appear fairly original (I'm ignoring internal alterations as these might just be as a result of servicing and parts availability) but I note that many ended up with rangefinders fitted and modified with higher specifications. So if anyone has information about cameras from this first batch and what model they effectively ended up as it might be interesting to build up an ide of the % which were modified.
