luigi bertolotti Posted October 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am having a fastidious problem on LR, and do not know how to solve it: - Time ago, I transferred some M8 DNGs from my PC to a normal 1GB USB memory key - Used the USB key to transfer the files to another PC with LR installed on - Removed the files from the USB key Now, ANY TIME I connect that USB key to that PC, LR starts automatically, asking if I want to backup, and, answered no, goes on, loading the last set of pics I imported. No problems, really, I simply shut LR and go on, but I do not understand this behavior, and is annoying to have LR starting each time I put in the USB key for somewhat reason. Can someone tell me how to fix this little problem ?
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Hi luigi bertolotti, Take a look here Lightroom - silly but annoying problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sandymc Posted October 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2007 It's actually a wildly irritating problem, and is not just confined to USB sticks. By default, the Adobe Photo Downloader starts LR whenever you plug anything that might have images on it into the PC, be that a USB key or a scanner. And there's no checkbox in LR that will disable this under all conditions. What you need to do is to remove the Adobe Photo downloader. There's a thread here Adobe Forums - Disable Adobe Photo Downloader from starting up with Windows? Note that if you use the registry removal trick, which is what I did, you have to shut down the downloader (by clicking on it little camera icon on the bottom right of your screen, and selecting exit), otherwise the downloader simply reinserts itself. Not Adobe's finest hour(!) Sandy
carstenw Posted October 31, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2007 Is "Preferences | Import | Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" enabled?
Shootist Posted October 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2007 If you are on a PC then open Regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the line with Abode Photo Downloader in the name field and has apdproxy.exe in the Data field. That will stop Adobe Downloader from running when you start your PC. You can still Download/Import images from cards and cameras but you'll need to start Lightroom first. Personally I don't like all this junk/crap starting up when my PC starts, I run a lean clean Proccessing machine. Only 3 items in that Run key in the registry. PS CS3 Bridge has a much better downloader and you can make a shortcut for it on your desktop but it does not import directly into lightroom, you would need to start lightroom and import the images after they are in your HDD. The file name is Photodownloader.exe and is in the Adobe Bridge CS3 directory/folder.
