Advertisement Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Hi woodda, Take a look here Canon recalls Camera ID Mark 111. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FastFashnReloaded Posted October 30, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2007 Good to see it is not only Leica is not perfect. One in the eye for all those who critized leica It's the pressure to release new stuff every year or two that does it. You barely have time to finish the engineering, get CE approval and FCC approval done, test it, rework the prototypes, test, rework, recode, find out that your Chinese PC supplier has fouled up on two lines three layers in on the CPU board, get new boards from China, test again, fix more code, then you have to release the product whether it is done or not and start on the next one. It's a lousy way to run a railroad.

FastFashnReloaded Posted October 30, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2007 Leica does not release stuff every year or two Jeff Since Leica has started down the digital path, indeed it does. M7 - February 2002 CM - 2004 DMR - July 2005 M8 - September 2006 Digilux 3 - February 2006 Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-150 - 2007 Leica D Vario Elmar 14-50 - 2006 Leica D Summilux 25mm - 2007 Leica Summarit-M class lenses - August 2007 I haven't even brought up the digital p/s cameras. For a very small company, even working with Panasonic, that's a frak of a lot of work.
tjphoto Posted October 30, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2007 Funny. I have one and i haven't heard anything about a recall. One thing i can say is, the camera rocks. Big Time. The auto focus issue is not an issue for me. I can't wait to see what it's big brother will do later next month. I love canons, i love leicas, so shoot me. Peace, Tim
chris_livsey Posted October 30, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2007 I did post a link to this recall last night but asked our moderator to remove it as I later found discussions which cast doubt on its authenticity. The Galbraith site is carrying it but does say "letter that's apparently being distributed by Canon" so the apparently is there to cover them. http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-8744-9136 Who knows where the truth lies on the web. tjphoto Posted October 31, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been using the camera for a few months and it's great. No problems, none. I don't shoot with the heavy tele's though. But, works great with 200 1.8 . I love the big play back monitor, and the files have a very nice more film like color. High iso are also very clean. I have already shot and submitted 800 speed files to gettty and they accepted them. And they go over the files very closely at 100 % . I like the 10mb file size too, i think it's good for most things.

Also (safer question to answer perhaps) have you been able to compare them to the 1D-MKII?
hdrmd Posted October 31, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 31, 2007 I agree with tjphoto. Leicas are fun, and my favorite camera, but that is no reason to dismiss the Canons. The Canon IIDs generates a remarkable file, and the IIDn's are remarkably reliable foe sports, and events. Just my opinion, of course. DR

Leica, when can I expect a rangefinder coupled 200mm f1.8 with a metered and coupled external viewfinder. Oh, and do put in a GM V8 as an AF motor, cause otherwise I won't be able to move the chuncky pieces of glass around!
thai.charlie Posted October 31, 2007 Share #12 Posted October 31, 2007 It hasn't been officially announced in the US yet. Those of us who have the 1D Mark III will hear in the next few days of what to do.
tjphoto Posted October 31, 2007 Share #13 Posted October 31, 2007 Why would anyone care what camera is used? It is the final result that matters. I love the way the canon feels in my hand. When i need to do some heavy duty shooting, i always reach for it. I stick in a 16 gig card and hammer away. I don't have to worry about anything. When i'm out hunting for arty pics or need to shoot a quick pic of the kids i enjoy using the M8 much more. I don't really feel like i trust the M8 for heavy shooting. But, i do love the lenses, and the small size.
rbsimages Posted October 31, 2007 Share #14 Posted October 31, 2007 great camera--just can't track down those running backs on certain days. but maybe just cause i shake too much. anyway, will send it in, so i can't blame the camera. probably the only value in doing it. dseelig Posted October 31, 2007 Share #16 Posted October 31, 2007 My camera after and a adjustment by canon mk111 that is is working fine but the weather is cooler now. Yes I shoot football and I have Reggie Bush in a full out dive to the pile on. I tried to call my canon pro repair guy today and no one is available. I guess they are preparing for there massive recall. David
bayerische Posted October 31, 2007 Share #17 Posted October 31, 2007 Why would anyone care what camera is used? It is the final result that matters. Yes, that might be true for some. But not for me, and maybe not for you, cause as your quote continues, you seem to care very much about what you are shooting with... I love the way the canon feels in my hand.
