But still, I recognize that many people don't have issues at all, which is kind of baffling to be honest. So just luck of the draw I guess. Oh...really sorry to hear that Qlan. I've just read your last post regarding the problems you've experienced. Can you not demand a replacement? Have you had any problems with long exposure prior to this? I've been advised to use a hair scrunchy for long exposure, is that something you'd agree with ?!

If you have time and want to be slightly cautious then format it in a PC/Mac first using the special SD card formatter software that's free online. Either way, the worst that will happen is it might lock up at some point while shooting and you'll have to pull the battery. Or your burst speed might not be that fast but you might not even really notice. Have fun! Thanks Henners! I have to admit I did have a slight wobble this morning after reading about Qlans recent problems. My inner voice was telling me to send it back and get an M10R….😬🙈

chris7273 Posted March 1, 2023 Share #24 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) Great Happy you 🙂 I have mine since mid January and no freeze. Direct update to last firmware with the Leica Fotos App before taking my first photo or even play in the menus). The biggest frustration was to wait the first full charge for the battery 🙂 I use good Sandisk Extreme Pro (200Mb/s read speed) and will not upgrade to last generation because I am "slow" photographer (I never use "burst" mode). What lens did you choose ? Edited March 1, 2023 by chris7273

The Leica store had an ex display summicron 50 f2 Asph, they offered me a decent discount so I chose that to start with. What lens did you decide to get?

I've been advised to use a hair scrunchy for long exposure, is that something you'd agree with ?! I'm already past the dealer return window for my camera. I contacted Leica, and they directed me to the NJ repair center without providing me a replacement or loaner. I'm not satisfied with sending them my camera and having to wait months to get it repaired for a 45-day old camera which is already a replacement (from my dealer). But I have a contact at Leica SF and they are trying to get me a replacement/loaner. We'll see if that pans out. Don't worry about it, just enjoy your camera and only worry when/if you start getting issues. About long exposure, it's not like I use long exposure very often, so I don't know if the issue was present since the beginning or not. The first night, everything was working without issues, only starting on the second night. Btw, I found that cleaning the lens detection sensor mitigates the issue... I think the lens detection sensor is seriously bugged (I suspect it is the cause of most of my freezes as well). Apparently Leica is releasing a new firmware tomorrow specifically targeting freezes, so maybe that's fixed (or improved). Fingers crossed. SJH Posted March 1, 2023 Share #27 Posted March 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Congratulations on your new camera, I’ve had my M11 since January and no issues or freezes. In fact it’s been more reliable in that area than both my M10R BP and M10M but again they’ve only had a few freeze ups so nothing major at all. Just normal complex electronics. Just as tip whilst most people format their SD cards in camera remember to also format the internal memory, most people forget about this

DadDadDaddyo Posted March 1, 2023 Share #29 Posted March 1, 2023 Congratulations on your new camera! After undergoing a grand mal dither over the decision between an M11 and an M10-R, I finally jumped on a snap opportunity and purchased a very slightly used M11 from Adorama. It arrived about a week ago. Upgrade to firmware 1.6 via the Fotos app was effortless. The camera is functioning beautifully. I did experience one (1) freeze. On reflection, it occurred under the exact same conditions in which I've experienced a freeze or two from my M10M, that is, in a hurry after switching on the camera, I hit the Menu button before the red light had gone out. The camera froze and became unresponsive. Popping out the battery immediately corrected it, and taking a breath after switching in before jabbing buttons has so far prevented a repeat. Through all of this, I've come down alongside those who feel the M11 freezing issue is probably overblown, and probably well on its way to resolution. Having arrived at this conclusion, it was easy to make the snap decision to buy when a very attractively priced used body popped up on Adorama. At the crucial moment, it was an easy decision. I think we're seeing consequences of the teapot tempest in recent used prices on the M11, as well as in prices on the M10-R. In that respect, I'm glad I held off, was patient, and permitted my dither to do its thing. This camera will be with me for years. It has effortlessly filled a spot between my beloved M10M and my less-frequently-used GFX100S. I am without doubts or second-guessing. In all respects, it feels as if this was the right outcome, for me, at least. Best wishes, all...

Thanks DadDadDaddyo I've not been able to spend as much time with it as I would have liked but so far my experience has been fantastic. To be honest I'm sure I would have been equally happy with the M10R or any Leica for that matter. The M11 is a beautifully crafted piece of art and such a joy to use. I would have bought it a lot sooner had I not watched or read so many reviews. There are pros and cons to every camera, some of the cons I have found to be negligible for my style of photography and for now there is absolutely nothing I would change about the M11. SteveHicks Posted March 4, 2023 Share #37 Posted March 4, 2023 I have had my M11 now for a couple of months shooting with 35mm and 50mm Summilux, the 75mm APO Summicron, and an older 21mm Elmarit. I took the leap and sent off my $9K to Leica and while I was waiting for the camera arrive, came back to this forum after a long hiatus to discover the Freezing issue being discussed at length. So I was very worried. I am happy to report that I have made several hundred images and can report no issues with this camera. I have been testing it along side my Hasselblad J5D 50c and can happily report that the images on the leica hold up very well in comparison. I feel badly for those who have invested in the M11 and have experienced problems, but I for one, am a very happy camper.

I bought a Helios 44m for my Canon a few years back...I adored some of the images it produced. Modern cameras & lenses create such fantastic quality images but older lenses, with their imperfections, can create beautiful, unique images. 1

I agree, it's sad that some people are still experiencing issues and I hope Leica resolve these satisfactorily. I spoke to the guy in the Leica shop and he assured me that Leica had resolved a lot of the issues with the latest firmware updates and also recommended certain SD cards. I have to admit that I experienced a couple of freezes at the very beginning but it was my fault, I forgot to switch the LV off using the viewfinder 😉
