Digilux 3 shutter delay question?

I have a Digilux 2. Great camera except for delay after you push the shutter until the picture is recorded. With moving subjects you get an image that is different from what you saw in viewfinder when you pushed the shutter release.

Does the Digilux 3 have the same problem?

Also with the Digilux 2 you have to wait several seconds after you make one picture before you can make another.

Does the Digilux 3 have the same problem?

These factors will affect my decision to upgrade to a Digilux 3.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Frank, I have the Panasonic version of both these cameras the LC1/D2 and the L1/D3, and the answer to both your questions is no!..

The LC1/D2"s are great but the delay is bothersome, not delay what so ever with the L1/D3..well worth the upgrade..

The lens on the D2/LC1 is faster but the Image Stabilized one on the L1/D3 more than makes up for it..good luck with your decision, I have not regreted the upgrade at all..Bill ~

Frank,

I have the Digilux 3 - no notifiable shutter delay and no waiting time before the next frame, you can hold the shutter down and capture series if you are so inclined.

used the Digilux 3 last month in Africa and loved everything about it. Zenfolio | Bo Lorentzen | Africa 2007

Really like your Africa photos, which lens did you make those photos with?

Hello Leo,

Thank you, the images was captured with a combination of the kit lens with and without 1.4 extender and the 150mm 2.0. The camera was a pleasure to use, details such as the easy lever for switching from single focus to continues focus was very helpful, having the controls easily available on the surface of the camera compared to buried in menus worked great.

Frank I have both the D2 and L1 and can say:

1) you dramatically reduce the shutter lag on the D2 by using manual focus. It is documented that the AF causes a 600msec (ie 0.6sec) delay. MF is 94msec (ie under 0.1 sec)

There is nothing you can do about the 5 sec write times of RAW images on a D2.

2) on the D3 and L1, use Central-only AF and the shutter lag is almost zero.

On a D3 without Firmware V2.0, the raw buffer lags, so make sure you upgrade to V2.0

On an L1 firmware V1.1 fixed the buffer lag, but also upgrade to V2.0 for improved in-camera image processing. Raw buffer can handle 5 consecutive raws before it slows down.

I like my old D2 and can't part with it even though the images on the L1 are much better, less noise, higher resolution. I use my L1 90% of the time and the D2 for when I want absolute quiet shooting in classical music concerts.
