Freezing M8 - another fault..... more rubbish.....

I am getting a bit frustrated at Leica - UV/IR issues, bad white ballance in quite some shots compared to my previous Canon, focussing of lenses not necessarily accurate - and now my camera starts freezing out of the blue!!!! Has anyone else realied this? Happens when my camera awakes from the sleep modus it seems.

Leica please quickly fix some bugs before I start to loose temper - at least that is my wish for the day.....

Maybe we need a new software to fix the issues - or a MKII-version has to come out soon. I already invested too much in lenses - the point of no return is crossed al´ready. But I would be ready to take a hit and go for an MKII even if the lemon-M8 model turns out to have minimal resale value.

How about starting a call for a petition to voice our wishes - or am I the only one resp. do I just have a bad day today?

Ten or eleven months ago, there were almost nothing else but these types of threads. IR-issue cannot be fixed using a firmware. Call it a design flaw if you will but there is a remedy around it. Yes, the IR filters are not readily available in all sizes but unless you are using UWA, you can get excellent results using B+W IR-cut filters White balance issue - well, maybe not the best but shoot RAW/DNG and make the adjustment when converting. Occasional freezing - well, maybe it can be fixed by a firmware but it doesn't happen that often, right? Maybe Bill Gates rendered some advise during the development of the M8 :D. Well, that was a tad below the belt; sorry, Bill :D.

<Sigh> No ... Guy Manusco kindly collected forum members' concerns in a list and personally handed them to Leica senior management and Leica is working on fixes.

It's funny that we haven't heard about this for quite some time since the T2 upgrade ... why all in a sudden it happened again? ... so we're expecting a T3 upgrade? ... Sounds like the camera is designed by Arnold Schwarzeneggar. :D

Actually, I think we need new firmware- NOW.

So, the man has a point.

Patience, yes- but it should be here already, the 2.0, preferably...

Well both my M8 work just fine with the present firmware, actually they have always worked with any of the released firmwares. Would I like to see the AWB fixed, YES, but it is no big deal ( I don't shoot Jpg). I have only seen the wacky wheel scrolling once (I normally use the arrow buttons to navigate the menus). I tried the wheel to switch from one menu item to the next and saw the wacky scrolling. So I won't do that again, arrows baby arrows.

I don't use instant preview, why would I. I know what I took a shot of. That feature also bother me with my Canon P&S.

New firmware is being worked on. To release it before it's ready - which is what would happen if it was released 'NOW'. would be worse than no update at all.

To be frank, if there was never to be another firmware update I'd still be happy with the camera as it stands.

Moderators: I suggest you create another sub-forum line named i.e.

"Unhappy M8/Leica customers".

We could gain time when browsing

T

All the best to satisfied ones.

This is one great idea. I would also suggest that people posting in that stream provide some kind of proof of ownership.:D

Today I feel much better again - but have some doubts still.... I will go off to China Tursday and really am not sure if I should take the risk to carry the M8 or rather stick to my old friend 1Ds, which has prooven so reliable (but heavy and intrusive......).

Its a tradeoff - but I still have 48hrs to make up my mind.....

I wouldn't take only a single camera to far-away places. The risk of something going bad is too high and I am not talking about the reliability of the camera body alone but also mishaps can happen. You either take both your M8 and your Canon 1Ds or buy another M8 and take both with you to China :D :D :D. I am halfway joking, BTW.

Citrus,

If you already have some M lenses (you state in your original post that you've invested too much in lenses), you might want to consider buying an inexpensive second-hand M film body for backup. Or even an Voigtlander or Zeiss Ikon. There's nothing like the security of a mechanical camera and a few rolls of decent film!
