dugby Posted October 28, 2007 Share #1  Posted October 28, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yesterday I had the pleasure of playing with a relative's new M8.  Using his 35mm summicron I was surprised to hear that the M8's shutter loudness and sound duration was 'possible' louder than my L1 / D3. This was a purely subjective assessment without a scientifically-controlled 'sound measuring" device.  It really surprised me as I was expecting the M8 shutter loudness it to sound somewhere between my D2 and L1. M8 was not as quiet as I was expecting  Second surprise is that it felt most "similarly heavy" to the L1 / D3 with 14-50mm kit lens.
Advertisement Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Hi dugby, Take a look here M8 Shutter sound is similar to D3 / L1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted October 29, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted October 29, 2007 The M8 is not a quiet camera, sadly, though I'd be surprised if it was noisier than the clatter from a Digilux 3. Â As for it's weight, I remember being disappointed with the Digilux 2 when I first picked it up and felt how light it was. The M8 feels just right. Â How did you find the M8 to use? dugby Posted October 29, 2007 Author Share #3  Posted October 29, 2007 Interestingly  a) the M8 shutter makes the sound "clink-bzzzz" the D3 shutter makes the sound "clunk-wizzz"  both very similar in duration, and loudness.  This M8 noise really brought to my attention the previous M8 discussions on the unexpected shutter loudness.  As for M8 usage, it brought back my previous memories of having used an M6 and M3, and also more recently the D2 in particular, in that they are "slow to use" in composure, focus and getting ones self steady for the shot.  I had previously intended to proceed with an M8 purchase, but will still continue to ponder on it. lennycam Posted October 30, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted October 30, 2007 i am glad to hear i am not the only one. as much as i want to get a M digital to use my m lenses with (especially my favorite, the 50 noct) i just can't put that kind of money into something that makes that clunky noise. To me cameras are like cars, and a ferrari would not be a ferrari without it's engine's distinctive growl. I want my M digital to sound like my M6/M7. Plus i hate the kick. very distracting. PLEASE, leica, hear my cry!
