If you don't mind me asking... How did you do that?

There was a software that can do that, I don't remember the name of that. Someone here might chime in?

Besides, the dealer I was dealing with is trustworthy. The camera shows the pictures numbering as 000792, and I was told it's never reset. So I trusted them.

My M9-P (black with Leica in white script on the top plate) get's noticed a whole lot more than any black M but with a red dot I've ever had.

One time an X-Pro shooter (I used to have both XP1 and 2) approached me in a cafe and asked about the M and what it was like to use then asked me if he could make a photo using mine (which I obliged)

I just saw this one for sale. Some donkey went at it with sandpaper and you can see the scratches from the sandpaper on the paint.

This fake brassing really needs to stop

I hope that the information is correct for you. But I would doubt that a camera will be sold that hasn't been reset. I've never heard of that, especially not from a Leica store.

Thank you, I have that software, I just wondered if there was a better way. I guess not…

That looks clucking dreadful…. Mine’s 10 years old, five of them with me, maybe 30,000 shots and doesn’t look any where as as brassed as that

To be honest, I had the same doubt. But it is indeed not reset. I still can see some personalized settings like timezone, the prefix of filename etc. But having said that, it's true that I can not prove the numbering is not reset.

I used ExifTool with Fuji and it worked. It gave me something like this

I think I tried it with a Leica M10P but I got nothing if I remember correctly.

@Adam Bonn Software for M10 / R / 11 for shuttercount?????

Yeah it's called Leica Sync App (mac only)

It's designed to wirelessly import images from the SD card, but it appears to access part of the service menu giving the shutter count..

It's been posted about on here before... some folks (me included tbh) are a little skeptical... but FWIW I got a reading when I bought the camera, have since reset the file numbering (twice actually) and after a couple of months I took another reading from the app, crunched the numbers of my file name sets to work out how many images I'd shot and the app reading and the file numbers matched, so I guess it works...

Edit, works with regular M10 too

Then it will probably be right, but I can hardly believe it. I'll clarify that with Wetzlar.

"

Version 1.4 22nd May 2019:

  • Added the “Image Count” display to the Info pop-up window (the ‘i’ icon in the toolbar). This shows the total number of images captured by the camera over its lifetime."

The M10x cameras definitely have a service menu (unlike the m9 no one outside of Wetzlar seems to know the button sequence to access it) but I can't imagine that Wetzlar will say

Oh yeah sure that completely separate from Leica engineers app you found on the Internet is giving you great and reliable info

I guess the litmus test is take your camera to Wetzlar, ask them the shutter count then verify the info with the app.

Either way it'll be a fairly wooly value as it'll be the number of images written to the SD card and not the number of times the shutter opened and closed (eg every time live view is used)

edit:

although I doubt that the app is making the number up, it’s gotta be pulling it off the camera somewhere…

I just reset the file numbering after taking about 300 pictures, so now the file starts from ..000001

And then I used this transient eye software, it shows the image count 1256.

So I would say the image count is quite accurate, at least resetting the numbering or changing the SD cards does not affect the count.

So I am going to believe this black paint only took about 800 pictures when I bought it. Besides It still has a firmware that was released in May 2021 and I am not planning to update that, my theory is that never updating/upgrading as long as it works.

There must be a contingent of folks that hardly ever use their Leicas.. my 5 year old (when I got it) m9 had iirc 4500 shots and according to this app about the same for my M10 (also 5 years old) and my (non BP) 10R had under 600…

Well all I can say is this, their idle life ends when I get my hands on them 😅

I believe you're correct.  I just knew mine would have a higher count.  After a few attempts and finally getting leica sync and my m10r bp to talk with each other I was surprised that after a year of owning it only showed about 800 images.  I'll have to see if it can check my Q next.🤔

Mine also had about 600 trips when I bought it. She was about 14 months old. But that was because I bought it as a demo model from a Leica dealer with a full guarantee.
If I ever meet an I phone owner, I'll use Adam's app to check the counter.
