Interesting meeting with Leica

Visited a Leica demo and tech session here in Montreal today. Got to try out the 4 new lenses. I am sure they will be of great interest especially to those who may be interested in a certain focal length but don't feel they can justify the $3000 for a lens that may not get used too often. It was mentioned that they were working on something like 14 new lenses but I couldn't get any more info other than the mention of maybe a 24 f2. Also mentioned was the next firmware should be very very soon as they need it for the new lenses and a rumour that the wight balance may be fixed in this version.

Yes, interesting that the camera needs to be "taught" about the new lenses and I'm sure Carsten will want to update his table of lens codes.

There's been talk about 24 - or is it 36 - lenses that Leica are working on, which presumably includes the M, the R, the PanaLeicas, Leica Cinema and so on. A 24mm Summicron would be interesting...

As for the "wight" balance, we can but hope Leica have got it "rhite". LOL.

I'm curious, are the lens elements of those new Hektor (sorry Summarit) made out of plastic or glass ?

Funny....as if someone who would ask that question ingenuously could tell the difference :D

...must be a front Porsche...:DBill
Reminds me of the joke about the woman who said to the homeless man that came asking for money, "Tell you what: take this bucket of paint and go out back and paint the porch and I'll make you a sandwich and a soup." The man takes the paint bucket, goes out back and comes back five minutes later and says, "Hey ma'am, that car there ain't no Porsche, that's a Ferrari, but it sure looks a lot better painted white!"

On a serious note, has anyone else noticed that Leica reps are the most loose-lipped on earth? It seems that if one bumped into one of their number on the street they would stop you and spill a bean or two without even being asked. EVERY time a member meets one, at a show, open day or whatever, some nugget of hitherto unknown information pops out.

I can only think of three possible reasons:

Cynical: None of it is true and people make it up

Stupid: Leica employ only cottonheaded ninnymugginses who like the sound of their own voices

Conspiricy: It's a deliberate policy of leaks/disinformation

The truth is out there...

Regards,

Bill

I've met very many reps and certainly those attributes are well-represented, either singly or multiply in one or another permuation. However the truth is more along the lines of these blokes are basically salesmen and thus anything they say must and should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.
