If I were picking out my first 50 mm M lens, I would go for either a Summilux Asph or Summicron. If budget is an issue, you will lose very little choosing the Summicron over the Summilux.

 

My reasoning for either of these lenses are their lightweight and portability.

 

When I purchased the Noctilux in 2005, I needed it like a hole in my brain, and truthfully, the same thing is true for many of the lenses I own.

 

I purchased it because I wanted it for its low light capabilities, knowing full well I could use it as an all arounder if need be. The Summilux is still my favorite lens, but for special times, the Noctilux is a special lens.
