I plan to buy a sensor cleaning kit for Leica M8 before the real need arises, which I am told it will. There seems to be lots of kits available. Does anyone have any experience with the Delkin kit, which even includes a vacuum cleaner?

eBay price is about $110, it seems.

Hi,

I am using the Delkin Kit and am perfectly happy with it, particularly the magnifyer which really does help a lot. I have not used the vacumn yet because on each occasion I have needed to clean a sensor I have gone straight for the pad.

Many thanks, Jim. This is just the kind of information I need.

Am I correct then in assuming you would rather recommend the Visible Dust Sensor Loupe and I understand that Visible dust also offer a good brush? The Delkin vacuum did not live up to expectations?

Price of the Delkin kit seems to have come down since your review.

I have the delkin sensor scope which works well in terms of spotting dust but it is a bit of a nuisance holding the small and stiff lightbutton pressed.

I have been using visible dust brushes for a couple of years on my canons and been quite happy with them but for some unfathomable reason I can't get them to work well on the M8 where they just seem to move the dust around. Probably operator error.

Pecpads and eclipse works fine though.:)

Ivar:

Micro tools has some great kits. I went with one of the kits for full frame sensors. The M8 has a full size shutter and the sensor cover glass is probably at least as big as full frame. The sensor wand SW3 works perfectly with both the M8 and DMR.

You want to make sure the kit your order has Eclipse E-2 as the cleaner, rather than the older Eclipse. It is also worth ordering an extra bottle of the E2 when getting a kit. It is also useful for cleaning lenses.

1 for the odd dust spot I use an Arctic Butterfly.Which is all I have needed so far.

2 When I need to wet clean I have sensor swabs and eclipse 2.Sooner or later wet cleaning will be required for tiny oil spots

Also have the visible dust loupe which is perfect for the job and the special cleaner for the arctic butterfly.

There are lots of products available and all probably do a decent job.Considering the cost of my kit I think the above is worth the money.
