250swb Posted January 30, 2023 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2023 I think you are referring to a 'crackle' finish paint, but I know what you mean 😉. It's an industrial process that needs the correct type of paint applied in the correct way to create a hard textured surface that is resistant to abrasion and knocks. Crackle finishes can be done at home, but it's not easy or as consistent as an industrial application.
Sonnelacht Posted January 30, 2023 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2023 In German: Kräusellack But be careful: there are many Kräusellack-Versionen on the market and always it is the result of e special process, so you cannot imitate it easily.
Sonnelacht Posted January 30, 2023 Share #4 Posted January 30, 2023 You see ist is not so easy! All early Leitz slide projectors VALOY etc were painted that way and te early enlargers too. The best HiFi components in Dieter Rams design made by BRAUN in the late sixties, early seventies had a brushed alloy front and black Kräusellack bodies.
Sonnelacht Posted January 30, 2023 Share #5 Posted January 30, 2023 (edited) Not to mix up with NEXEL, a matte finish used for instance by old REVOX components and which has shown that it is not durable! Gets sticky by time. Edited January 30, 2023 by Sonnelacht
