Stan Yoder Posted October 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The problem is mounting both the flash and a VF, since the latter is necessary for the WATE. I'm thinking: get the flash off the camera via a Nikon SC17 cable. Cement a shoe on top of the SC17 camera end for the VF. What thinketh ye? Other solutions? Advertisement Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Hi Stan Yoder, Take a look here M8+WATE+VF+ttl flash: how?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Eoin Posted October 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2007 No solution to suggest except advise to proceed with extreme caution on this Idea. If by viewfinder your talking about the franken finder I'd consider the weight of the finder will pull the glued shoe off very quickly.

There is a double cold/shoe hotshoe conversion that allows mounting of a non-TTL (X-contact only, automatic flash function) flash AND a viewfinder, but it won't hold the frankenfinder nor a heavy flash (like the Metz 54Mz). This is an inherent problem with a non-SLR where you mount a lens outside the view of the combined rangefinder/viewfinder requiring a separate viewfinder. Stan, Raising a viewfinder farther away from the original on camera hot shoe mount will increase parallax error. One alternative solution would be to investigate a Michael Bass modified Voigtlander Double Shoe Adapter, which essentially facilitates a offset hot sync shoe mount and a regular shoe mount. This should work very well with regular sized viewfinders, although the size of the Leica Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder would most likely obscure the offset hot sync shoe mount on the modified Double Shoe Adapter. However, one catch is that Voigtlander has discontinued their Double Shoe Adapters. Reportedly, Tim Isaac, of Thumbs Up fame, is considering a future Thumbs up with a pass-through hot sync shoe mount. It might be beneficial to contact him about the demand for double shoe mount version with an offset hot sync mount. Personally, I like to see a version that also accommodates the use of an Luigi M8 Half Case. Geoff myspace.com/geoffotos
