erl Posted October 22, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 22, 2007 I tried one last week, loaned by my dealer. I needed to buy another M8, but ended up buying 2nd hand. I discerned no difference between the cameras, except $2000 in price.

Daniel Ortego Posted October 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 22, 2007 He probably ment 2000 usd between used and new. I certainly hope so, since I’m not of the ranks that could look at the M8 as “just a piece of equipment”. For me, it will become the priced possession of my hobby. I did in fact order a new version and I expect to pay a few hundred more than the current price. Beyond that, I would have to balance the benefits in relation to functionality vs. the apparent celebrity status of owning an M8. Regards,
Eoin Posted October 22, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) ..... vs. the apparent celebrity status of owning an M8..... LOL, don't kid yourself, the only status you'll be aspiring to is flat broke:D
Daniel Ortego Posted October 22, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 22, 2007 LOL, don't kid yourself, the only status you'll be aspiring to is flat broke:D Apparently, I didn’t make myself clear. I know full well that it’s no cult toy from my view; I simply have a limit as to what I’ll pay for quality vs. function. I’m always humbled when some forum members refer to their M8’s like breath mints at the restaurant check out stand. Oh yeah, I will be paying on my M8 for quite some time, unless of course I take a lot of photos of old junk and sell it on eBay. I'm simply not good enough to actually make any real money with it! erl Posted October 23, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 23, 2007 Daniel, I should clarify my earlier statement about new & 2nd hand price, for your benefit. First, I am talking Australian dollars. That's about 80 cents in the US $. Here, a new M8 sells at AU$7000 (old price, don't know the new!). I got a mint 2nd hand for AU$5000. The previous owner was not happy because the "autofocus" could not be made to work properly! LOL. Anyway, the unit is good and I urgently needed a second body because I dropped my first one just after being calibrated in Solms. So back it has gone. Such is the price of indespensable gear, in my case anyway.
Daniel Ortego Posted October 23, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 23, 2007 Thanks, I didn't catch your location before I responded so I figured it was a currency issue. I mean, for a moment I was really depressed. I will purchase a new "current'' M8 in the next few hours. I decided to stop obsessing over the whole "next production run" thing'. CJH Posted October 23, 2007 Share #11 Posted October 23, 2007 Hey Dude, From a buddy up in Phoenix... I did the same a couple weeks ago... panicked with pending price increase and bought that evening. Mine's going back this week for replacement because of some problems. Online retailer very good thus far. And know what? I'm still stoked about having one! Yeah, they're costly. But I've spent a lot of money on a lot of things in years past that I suspect will give me nowhere near the satisfaction that a digital M will provide over time.
