gogopix Posted August 20, 2006 Share #21 Posted August 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Andy I have not yet reached first anniversary with DMR, so still learning. I would also vote C1 as good processer for RAW but Silkypix (small version free) and Adobe ACR not bad if you play around. C1 as many have found is a time saver since it seems get it right more often. Also, battery indicator goes quickly from half to flash Also, you may have some confusio non boot up sequence and the 'power-on' doesn't always work (just take out battery and jam back in!) As old Contax 645 P25 user and older Leica R4s user I am very happy with that Leica look and rarely need the extra pixels of P25 " It's not the pixel count, but the Quality of the pixels that count!" :-) Regards Victor

Jamie Roberts Posted August 20, 2006 Share #22 Posted August 20, 2006 Hey Andy Another vote for C1--it's brilliant, and the quality of conversion is certainly there. I've used it for years now, and once you get their interface, it's wonderful. Actually, the user interface, for a RAW converter, is great, because its aimed at workflow, not individual pics, but this can throw you when you first start. I just downloaded the newest Flex Color, though, and I gotta say my initial impressions are quite good (once you get that you have to import a folder of DNGs). It's got the fastest DNG browse engine that I've seen to date, so it's going to be my lightbox before C1 gets involved. I also didn't see anything funky in ISO 800 shots from FlexColor, though I know there's an issue there (or was!). Anyway, wishing you great light! mgcd Posted August 20, 2006 Share #23 Posted August 20, 2006 Well Andy, all is well that ends well. I believe you'll be very happy with your new acquisition. I hope this puts to rest the undeserved bad rap the R8 has been getting with the DMR of late, especially on this forum. Cheers,

I have been unlucky with my R8 this year, with first the tripod screw and now this issue with the DMR. The first problem was caused by Manfrotto (IMO) and the second was just a matter of the dealer not being used to fitting DMRs in front of customers. I am a happy camper once again. Roll on summer! (Oh, hang on... I wonder if Leica UK can fix that too?)
rick_dykstra Posted August 21, 2006 Share #26 Posted August 21, 2006 Hi Andy. Congrats on getting it working. I wonder if that shutter winding hiccup is unique to the R8? I'd be keen to hear of any other impressions/features/limitations you can report on, re using it with an R8. TIA. Rick.

masjah Posted August 21, 2006 Share #28 Posted August 21, 2006 Andy Would you happen to know if the shutter has to be actually cocked prior to installation, or is it just a question of ensuring that the rewind button is not pressed? In other words, if, after taking out a film, you'd cocked the shutter, then fired it (so it was then uncocked, but with rewind mode cancelled) would things have worked OK? Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 21, 2006 Share #29 Posted August 21, 2006 I reported this finding many moons ago but when installing the DMR on the film bodies it is best to cycle the camera a few frames with the camera battery in and set to ISO 100 than take a shot and leave it alone, than take film back of than battery than install DMR and than it's battery. Than take a shot it may not shoot the first one but get the gearing correct than should be fine, why , how come and why not don't have a clue it just works. Guest flatfour Posted August 21, 2006 Share #30 Posted August 21, 2006 You might not think that's a good shot but to me that tells everything about an apple on a tree in an English summer. I can smaell the damp and taste the apple. Excellent Andy
