albertknappmd Posted August 19, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Correct me if I am wrong, but when you are shooting the interface should be set to camera. It seems obvious but this simple point is not directly addressed in the DMR manual....
Advertisement Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Hi albertknappmd, Take a look here Dmr Interface Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
telyt Posted August 19, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2006 Manual? What manual? Seriously, I don't think I've opened the manual yet. The thing is too danged intuitive to bother with the manual.
andybarton Posted August 19, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2006 What interface? Mine is set to "Disk" by default and seems to work.
albertknappmd Posted August 19, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted August 19, 2006 Doug and Andy: While intuitive in most ways, the interface setting is still perplexing. From what I have gleaned from the manual, "disk" is used when you are downloading to the PC. Do I assume correctly that "camera" should be used when using the DMR? pascal_meheut Posted August 19, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 19, 2006 It matters only when the DMR is connected to a computer. In disk mode, it is seen as an (expensive) hard drive and you can simply copy your pictures. In camera, it can be managed by flexcolor, one can fire the shutter from the computer and so on. As far as I know, this is in the documentation.
11275 Posted August 20, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2006 Albert you are partly correct. The camera/DMR will function in either "Camera" or "Disc" "Interface" and the default setting is "camera". For shooting to the SD card the Interface setting does not matter. In the manual this is on Page 103 "Transfering Data to a Computer" it is mentioned that you must set the "Interface" to "Disc" to connect with a computer, as they say, to create a very expensive portable hard drive. Be sure that when you do this - to transfer data from the SD card to your computer - that you set the Interface to Disc and then turn off the camera and turn it on again! Then when connected to your computer by a Firewire connection you will find your camera accessible under "My computer" as a drive. You can then copy and move the image files where you wish. I would recommend the use of an inexpensive card reader - saves wear and tear on the DMR. As for "Interface/Camera", this is for when you want to shoot tethered to a computer/laptop and capture images directly to your harddrive. In this mode the camera/DMR can be controlled and triggered remotely by action of the operator from the computer and the data is transferred directly to the computer not placed on the SD card. You see the image on the computer screen and can invoke certain controls. This can only be done through the use of the FlexColor software which is a free download from the Hasselblad site. This is explained on Page 105 "Remote control operation via FireWire connection with Mac and Windows. Hope this helps.
mgcd Posted August 20, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a Mac this happens automatically. I've never changed any settings with respect to camera or disk and I download my images via firewire directly. Perhaps this is different on a PC? I honestly have no idea. telyt Posted August 20, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2006 On a Mac this happens automatically. On my Mac OS X wants to re-format the card and OS 9 doesn't see it. The card reader works best for me.
mgcd Posted August 21, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 21, 2006 On my Mac OS X wants to re-format the card and OS 9 doesn't see it. The card reader works best for me. OK then, on my PowerBook with Mac OS 10.4.7 this happens automatically... I've had corrupted cards with the Lexar card reader and my La Cie does not read 2GB SD cards although they keep promising a firmware update for Mac Os. albertknappmd Posted August 21, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted August 21, 2006 Thank you all! Since I always use SD cards and download directly into my Epson P4000 or the Sandisck card reader, I will leave the interface on CAMERA as this seems to be the default mode.
