I've finally adjusted the rangefinder on my MM and this rather finicky lens now works ok ....:)

Cleaned this up and sent it off to WhiteWall for printing - holding my breath a bit.

Some stellar images on this thread. I'm still loving the detail, tonal range, and zen-like purity of the images I'm shooting on the MM. Here's one I shot in the early hours of this morning, on Sauchiehall Street, in my city, Glasgow. 50mm Summilux ASPH.

Best regards all,

Colin

Smoked mackerel, Berlin. The Mononchrom seems to be able to render black on black with no effort. 28 elmarit 4

Richard,

How did the MM hold up in those temperatures?

Hi Chuck

Not really a problem. It was not snowing while I was out, well not much anyway, and it was really only windy (very windy) for 30 minutes of my hike. The rest I guess was about -3 or -4 degrees Celsius with little wind chill.

Most of the time the camera was in a shoulder bag since I was using walking poles (the snow was often knee deep), but I had to change the battery only after about 2 hours and one 16Gb card later. That was after I was in the wind for about 20 minutes.

All in all I wasn't disappointed with the battery life I got - but being used to the M9 it was what I was expecting.

Having it over my shoulder on the odd occasion didn't worry me nor did the odd flurry of snow that might have hit the lens or body. Warm breath on a very cold piece of metal was a nuisance but no more than that. Changing a lens was challenging and only done if absolutely necessary.

I did learn that I don't need a soft release. I have had problems with attaching a soft release onto the MM (I think it has been discussed here somewhere) and thought that using gloves and NO soft release would be a problem. The opposite was true and I actually found both half pressing the button for exposure lock and also taking shots was easier and more sensitive without an extra soft release. Both with and without gloves, and the gloves were big ski gloves.

Regards

Richard
