My guess is: you only know when you have tried it in the shop.

I think I read somewhere that it does, but really slow.

Mind: most of these image tanks do copy your DNG, but only display the JPG. Works fine though.

I saw that, and the Jobo site as well.

But I only read that it reads >100 RAW formats.

I would wait untill Leica M8 DNG is confirmed, and its speed thoroughly tested, before spending up to 800 EUR!

Yes, as far as i know it does read the M8 DNG's .......... BUT, I read, and can't remember where, for viewing the DNG's it was incredibly slow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it's a crazy price just for an HardDrive with a viewer !! and I also red that it's too slow.

The iPod classic costs $349 for 160 GB (or $249 for 80 GB), and it's also an iPod, not just a viewer. Of course it can store the M8 RAW , but to view them you have to shoot DNG+JPEG.

There's a 99.99% probability that M8 DNGs are supported, because they are specifically supported on it's predecessor. None of these portable devices is going to be blazingly fast with raw images: That's just the reality of life with these energy-saving processors.

Upgrading hard drives is really easy: Just install, format, and it's good to go.

The "Pro" designation has some justification: These things are designed to ensure that your photos are downloaded fast, safely, you have a multitude of options for backing it all up, with or without the use of a computer. It's also physically ruggedized. The iPod Camera Adapter is unfortunately not designed to cope with anywhere near the volumes of data that the M8 shooter is likely to generate, and neither can you readily back up an iPod without also carrying a computer.

What I like about my GVP Evolution (immediate predecessor to the new model) is how it compares downloaded data with the data on the flash card, and you know right away if you've got a corrupted file. I had this happen once, because my M8's battery had conked out partway through the exposure. I also like not having to remove it from my bag for airport security!

The ipod has a camera connector c. £17 from Applestore. You plug the usb cable into this and with DNG+jpeg the images are imported onto your ipod alongside your favourite tunes! If you enable the ipod as a hard drive ( click a button on itunes) you can then transfer the DCIM folder images onto your computer. Not fast but smallet that the Epson/Jobo and possibly...cooler??

Yes, but how many 2 gigabyte cards can you download in this manner before your iPod battery goes dead? ;) Last I heard, it couldn't do even 1 gigabyte, and it took forever to get there.
