Yellow_78 Posted January 5, 2023 Share #1  Posted January 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I love my SL2s and the lenses with it but was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the rubber rings turning whitish? I look after my gear well and they live in a dehumidifeid cabinet when not in use. Any recommendations on how to treat/prevent this??  Thanks in advance! frame-it Posted January 5, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted January 5, 2023 why don't you post a photo so people can see what happened exactly?
andybarton Posted January 5, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted January 5, 2023 Small poll, I know, but both these examples involve dehumidifier cabinets.

I'll post a pic when I get time but it basically looks like that 90mm in the example above!
AndreasG Posted January 5, 2023 Share #7 Â Posted January 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rub it off with a wet cloth (water + 3% glycerol). This was successful with my Hasselblad/Zeiss lenses.

This happens to a few of my lenses but not all equally used lenses. Not sure why. I keep a dry toothbrush ready just for this. I just give the rubber-like focus ring a brisk dry brush a couple of times over and that does the trick, I finish with a rocket blower just incase there is any dry residue left after the brushing. I don't use any type of liquid, alcohol or any solution. From what I have experienced, once it starts on one lens it seems to happen again on the same lens from time to time--must be some breakdown in the material.. But the toothbrush alone seems to be the solution.

Haven't had a chance to try anything yet but hopefully soon. 👌
leicamr Posted January 9, 2023 Share #10  Posted January 9, 2023 I believe that the white is salt deposit from moisture in handlers hands / fingers.  Mark
akiralx Posted January 17, 2023 Share #11 Â Posted January 17, 2023 Yes this happened also to my 75mm Summarit-M - a careful few minutes with a barely damp old toothbrush seemed to solve it, though it's never going to look as black as the (metal) aperture ring just above it.
