The camera in the advert is definitely an M8, as it has the frame counter on the top plate.

Sadly, my actress spotting skills fall short of those for the Leica ;), but I can now confirm that the woman is definitely played by Audrey Tautou. Well done to Andy for the identification.

Mike

Apologies for spelling her name incorrectly - I was in front of the TV using the iPhone as a reference...

Anyway, I bet that Audrey smells lovely.

We are agreed, but at least I got there first this time! :D

Given the red dot, it must mean that it is the M8, rather than the M8.2.

There are yet more important questions that have to be answered about the ad.

Has the M8 had any factory upgrades fitted, or is it in the original Classic form? Clearly, it is impossible to tell whether it has the 2 metre framelines, but how about shutter, sapphire glass and vulcanite? To me, it looks like the standard M8 shutter dial, which probably means that the rest of the camera is unmodified.

How did Audrey Tautou mange to get such a good close-up without using a much longer lens?

She replays three images of the young man, numbered 30 through to 32. 30 and 31 appear to be the same, but 31 appears in two guises, the second guise being a tighter close up that is identical to 32. It is as if she had zoomed in to enlarge image 31, but there is no rectangle in the bottom right hand corner to show the degree of enlargement.

Clearly, these are vital questions to which the perfume buying public deserves to know the answer. ;)

Regards

Mike

Great spot, fascinating 'behind the scenes' look.

Say, you are aware that Andrew Nemeth has a Leica at the Movies page, right? Leica FAQ - Leica Spotting & at the Movies

For the theatrical releases, you might want to check to be sure he's got them in his database. If not, he's glad to get updates.

Mike--

It's interesting that she's shot 40 pictures, and is back-checking earlier ones.

There's a back-story here, isn't there, that we mere viewers are unaware of?

I had the feeling from the commercial that she was chimping the shot she had just made, but no, she's reminiscing over some earlier pictures.

Curiouser and curiouser. :p

I mean, we know the camera doesn't lie, right? :D

I teach a unit of work to secondary school pupils (year 9 14/15 year Olds) about ethical choices including the purchasing of blood diamonds. As part of it we watch Blood Diamond with Leonardo DiCaprio. As someone mentioned the female lead uses a Leica in it. Every time I watch out I get GAS and also annoyed as she clearly didn't get told how Rangefinder works before being given one.
