citrus Posted October 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My WATE has three visible dust spots inside the lens barrel - no idea how they got there. I am not sure if they will appear on the pictures when shooting at f16 - I think it will harm the picture somewhat in any case, or? I see dust on the sensor easily - but does dust inside the lns also get visible - I do not think so, but I hve seen people in the forum that say it does. As I have no way to compare I dont really know what to think. How much is lens cleaning at Leica anyway - anybody have some xperience?

carstenw Posted October 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2007 It normally isn't visible, but try to shoot a wall at f/16 and see if you can find anything.
Guest darkstar2004 Posted October 15, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2007 Dust inside a lens is irritating, but I have never seen it cause any negative results on the photographs made with those lenses. Seems like it could possibly be an issue if you were photographing into a bright light source; you might want to give that a try and see what results you get. Also, try photographing a clear blue sky - use E6 film for both tests. If neither test produces problems, try to not worry about the dust. Dust inside a lens is pretty much inevitable, unless you buy a lens, never open the box and seal it up in shrink wrap.
charlesphoto99 Posted October 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2007 You probabl;y aren't going to get the best performance out of this lens at f16 anyway (or any Leica M lens for that matter). Every lens I've ever owned by every manufacturer gets dust inside at some point. Not really an issue.
