I'll be traveling in the coming weeks, and given the (irritating) one carry-on bag rule at Heathrow, I'm looking to consolidate. As stated in the title, I'm thinking of a well-constructed bag which will fit an M8, 2-3 lenses, 17" (MacBook Pro) computer, and various accessories.

I'm open to all suggestions, but would prefer something which does not attract too much attention.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Regards,

On my trip to Egypt last year, I used a Crumpler Karachi Outpost. It is very large, and I travelled for a little over two weeks with it, with a Canon 5D, 17-40L, 50 Cron and 80 Lux, as well as clothes. It has a special padded part for a large laptop. An M8 might have allowed me to go one step down in bagsize...

If you are looking for just a camera bag, then something like an Artist&Artisan ACAM7100 or one of the Domke bags might be more the thing to bring. Check the measurements carefully, as I am not sure if a 17" MacBook Pro would fit.

The 17" MBP is the problem here, I'm not aware of a camera bag that can carry a 17" wide screen. However I use a Sean Jackson Big Back Office to carry my 17" MBP every day and while not a camera bag in it's own right can be adapted to function as such. There are 2 largish pouches which which I use to carry my broken down M8 and 3 lenses. I use the lens padding from the Billingham to shroud the lenses during the journey. On arrival I transfer to the Billingham which was packed in the checked baggage. Not Ideal but seeing as I use the Big Back Office everyday it manages to carry my valuables as carry on. One thing to watch now is the weight, Not only are you limited in bag size but now it must not exceed a specific weight. A bag, M8, 3 lenses and computer all adds up.

Lowepro make some backpacks that will take a 17" notebook afaik. Some have a reasonable amount of room for other gear as well.

Personally, I have a toploading backpack that is right on cabin baggage size. I remove the insert from my billingham hadley small, use that to pack the lenses, wear one camera, and put my notebook into the pack in a neoprene sleeve. I take a pacsafe citysafe 200, mashed into the backpack, which fits the hadley insert nicely and has a bit more travel utility than the camera bag does. Either way - at the checkin/security I only have 'one bag' ;)

Once on the plane, I reconstitute the pacsafe and travel with two bags.

I use a Thinktank bag/case made for the laptop+camera owner. I've traveled with it on palnes as it is alsomade for airline size compartments. I take it on shoots where I know I want the laptop there.

I use it with a 15" MBP but they also have a bag for the 17" MBP. It has far more romm than any M8 shooter needs, well compared to how much Nikon stuff it holds and the room that requires. Very well made too.

I flat out can't remember what they call the bag. It doesn't look like a camera bag though.

Google thinktank photo and you'll find it.
